ABP sponsored Ferrybank GAA Weekly Notes

JUNIOR FOOTBALL:

Our Junior Footballers were defeated by Butlerstown in the Tony Kirwan Plant Hire Eastern quarter final, going down narrowly on a scoreline of 1-08 to 1-06. Butlerstown made the better start opening with four points, before a point from Caolán Mac Cathmhaoil got the team on the scoresheet.

Ferrybank began to improve as the opening half went on, and moments later a goal bound shot from Jack Keogh-Moran was well saved by the Butlerstown goalkeeper that prevented a certain goal. A two pointer from Caolán reduced the gap to a point, and minutes later the same man levelled it up with another score. Butlerstown had their chances, but Pawel Tomczuk kept his side in it with a string of fine saves. Right on the stroke of half time, the Ferrybank goal was breached when another Butlerstown attack was stopped by the Ferrybank defence only for the ball to run loose, and put into net for the opening goal.

Ferrybank got off to a great start early in the second half, when a pass from Fionn McGarrity, played in the pacy Jack Keogh-Moran and his low shot hit the corner of the net. Both sides had chances to take the lead as the game went on, and with scoring at a premium for long periods of the second, Ferrybank finally edged into the lead with another Caolán point. It was hoped that this lead score might spur on the team, but it didn't materialise, as Butlerstown stepped it up, and drew level with a point. Entering the closing minutes, two more points saw them back in the lead. Ferrybank had one last chance to level it up, but a long range free fell short, and that was that.

No doubt the lads will be disappointed, as they had chances in the second half to pull away, but did not convert them. Special word of thanks to Richie Finnegan who oversaw the team for the campaign.

CAMOGIE:

It's a big week ahead for the Ferrybank Junior Camogie side as they prepare for next Sunday's County Final against An Rinn at SETU Arena. Both sides played each other in the league campaign, with the western's prevailing in a close game.

The girls have put in a big effort throughout the campaign, and they will be keen to get back to the Intermediate grade. We would ask everyone to come along on Sunday and show your support to the team, and hopefully they can be rewarded with the work they have put in it. Best of luck girls.
