ABP sponsord Ferrybank GAA Weekly Notes

CAMOGIE:

It wasn't to be for the Ferrybank Camogie team as they came up short in last Sunday’s County Junior Final against An Rinn in SETU Arena. No doubt it was the team’s best performance of the year, but three second half goals at key stages were enough for An Rinn to claim the win on a scoreline of 3-12 to 1-11, with all the Ferrybank scores coming from the stick of Player of the Match recipient Niamh Ahearne.

The result did not reflect the closeness of the match, but as the game went on in the second half, with Ferrybank chasing, the defence was left exposed, which An Rinn exploited. It was An Rinn who were fast out of the blocks, racing into a four-point lead at the midway stage. However, Ferrybank slowly got to grips, and the accuracy of Niamh Ahearne ensured the sides were all square at the break at 0-06 each.

The Ferrybank girls had a lot of possession at the start of the second half, but did not take their chances. They were punished when a fortuitous goal from a tight angle gave An Rinn the lead and that proved crucial. With Niamh keeping the girls in the game, a second An Rinn goal arrived, with Ferrybank pushing up, they got caught on the break, and there was daylight between the sides.

An Rinn were taking their chances and scored a third goal, but Ferrybank never gave up, and got rewarded with a fine strike from Niamh from close range. But it proved too late, as the final whistle sounded, much to the relief and joy of An Rinn. Ferrybank cannot be faulted for their effort, as they battled all the way, and their season is not over yet, as they have qualified for the Munster Junior C championship against Tipperary opponents in November.

A huge credit to manager Yvonne and coach Jenny who put in a huge effort throughout the season, and to the players for their commitment and effort. It was great to see so many young players coming into the squad as well, and this will have provided great experience for them. Thanks to everyone who came out, and supported the team on the day.

UNDER 16 FOOTBALL:

The combined Ferrybank/Erin’s Own side were defeated in their two latest League games last week. Last Monday night, the team travelled to play Abbeyside, and despite being short a few key players, put in a good effort, but the home side prevailed in a close game.

Last Sunday morning, Ballyduff Lower were the visitors, and following a good game of football, they went home with the win on a scoreline of 3-10 to 1-05.

Next up for the team is against St. Patricks on November 9th.

UNDER 13 HURLING:

Our U13 hurlers had a busy week with two matches in three days, which unfortunately provided two defeats. Last Wednesday night, they made the trip to Leamybrien to play Kilrossanty, and they proved too sharp for the team, running out worthy winners.

Two nights later, the team travelled to play Ballygunner, and put in a big performance, going down narrowly by the minimum on a scoreline of 4-5 to 1-13.  Trailing by six points at the break, the lads put in a fantastic second half performance to draw level with minutes to go. However, a late point won it for the home side.

Next up is a trip to Tramore on Saturday, October 18th at 4pm.

TEAM: Sam, Conor, Jackson, Mikey, Logan, Alex, Jack, Oscar, Matthew, Conor B, Ben, Tadgh, Caiden, Jamie, Jack T, Darragh S.
