DILLON QUIRKE FOUNDATION:
Many of you will know our clubmate Conor Haley. Just last year, Conor discovered he had two holes in his heart and needed life-saving open-heart surgery. Amazingly, only 8 months later, he’s back on the pitch in the green and white.
Now Conor and his family are determined to help others by raising funds for the Dillon Quirke Foundation, which provides heart screening for young players.
On Friday, September 26th, they are hosting a Golf Classic at Waterford Golf Club to support this cause.
Goal: €6,000
To provide screening for the Abbey Community College hurling and camogie teams (and hopefully the juniors too).

JUNIOR FOOTBALL:
Ferrybank's Junior Footballers had to settle for another share of the spoils for the second week in a row with a draw against Dunhill last Saturday evening on a scoreline of 2-08 to 0-14. The team battled back well in the second-half, as a second Dunhill goal looked to have swung it in their favour. However, fair play to the team who kept plugging away and were rewarded with a late point.
Dunhill opened the scoring with a point from play and enjoyed the early possession, but a swift counter attack from Ferrybank saw a fine score from Sean Adeyemi to level it up. Ferrybank began to enjoy a lot more of the play, and hit three quick two-pointers through Caolan Mac Cathmhaoil (2) and Luke Flynn to increase their lead. Midway through the opening half, a swift Dunhill counter attack saw them awarded a penalty, but Pawel in goal, pulled off a fantastic save, diving full length to palm the ball away. A few wides did not help Dunhill causes as the game wore on, and another point from Caolan Mac Cathmhaoil ensured the lads lead 0-8 to 0-3 at the break.
An early point from Robbie Carew extended the lead, but Dunhill began to gain more possession, and in a matter of moments hit 1-04 without reply to go into a one point lead. A badly needed point from Greg Murphy levelled it up. However, another Dunhill attack saw them cut the Ferrybank defence open for a second goal to go three clear. Credit to the team, and they kept battling away, and a couple of quick points from Caolan reduced the gap. Ferrybank had a few chances to level it up, but some poor shooting almost cost them dearly. With time almost up, the ball was played forward to Robbie Carew, who made space for himself, and kicked the equalising score.
This was a match both sides could have won, but fair play to the lads who battled away, and got rewarded with a point each. With that draw, the team now go on to the quarter finals, in two weeks’ time, with their opponents yet to be confirmed.
TEAM: Pawel, John A, Stephen, Harry, Sean (0-01), Shane, Naoise, Ruadhri, Caolan (0-08), Luke(0-02) Jay, Greg (0-01), Robbie (0-02), Izaak, Finn, Conor, Reece, Lochlann
UNDER 16 HURLING:
The combined Ferrybank/Erin’s Own combined side were defeated by a strong Fourmilewater in the final of Morris’ SIY Division 2 Plate Final last Wednesday at the SETU Arena. It was Fourmilewater who made the better start with the first three points on the board, before a point from Jamie got the team on the score sheet. Fourmilewater were enjoying plenty of possession, and it took a brilliant point blank save from Aidas in the goal to prevent a certain goal for Fourmilewater. The combined team began to settle. and three fine points from Mark F, Finn, and Jack got the team back to a point. Just coming up to half time, Fourmilewater got their opening goal, when a long ball into the area was batted out by Aidas, and the breaking ball fell kindly to Fourmilewater player who hit first time on the ground to the net. However, just on the stroke of half time, the lads got a goal back through the impressive Mark F, who weaved his way into the Fourmilewater area and hit a low shot to the corner of the net to only leave them two points behind at the break.
An early score from Jack reduced the gap, but the lads were guilty of conceding some soft frees which were punished on three successive occasions by Fourmilewater to extend the lead. A second point from play from Finn gave the team a badly needed score, but Fourmilewater kept taking their chances with points to keep them ahead. To be fair to the team, they kept battling and three quick scores from Jack (2) and Darragh brough the lads back into contention. However, as the game entered the closing moments, Fourmilewater got in for a second goal with the defence unable to clear their lines to open up a seven point lead. The accuracy of Jack with three fine scores kept the lads in it, and they saw a great chance of a goal go abegging, when a low shot from Hayden went narrowly wide from close range. Fourmilewater closed out the win with a final point to run out winners on a scoreline of 2-15 to 1-13. The lads gave it a good shot on the night, but came up against a physically strong team who ran out worthy winners.
A special word of thanks to Tom, John, Brian, Aine, John, and Alan who oversaw the team through the competition, and thanks to all who came along and supported the team on the night.
UNDER 14 HURLING:
Ferrybank's Under 14 hurlers are in County Final action this coming Tuesday, September 23rd with a trip to Fraher Field to play Lismore with a 6:30pm throw-in. We wish the team and mentors the very best of luck, and hopefully a big crowd will come down and support the team on the night.
UNDER 12 HURLING:
Congratulations to the Under 12 hurlers who won their Déise Óg finals match against Erin’s Own on Sunday morning at the SETU Arena. A good game of hurling saw two evenly matched teams, but the lads held their nerve and recorded a great win. This caps a brilliant year for the players, who also won the football equivalent a few weeks ago, and well to the team, and mentors, for all the work they have put in, and have been fully rewarded.
TEAM: Jake, Kane, Oisin, Alex, Caiden, Jackson, Harvey, Darragh SW, Oscar, Cian, Matthew, Darragh M, Cody, Connor B, Reece, Darragh F, Ben, Zac.
Special mention to Darragh M who won the man of the match award from the game.
UNDER 10 HURLING:
Under 10 hurling will now take place on Monday and Wednesday nights in the field from 6pm to 7pm, and all are most welcome to come down and get involved.
CAMOGIE:
This coming Sunday September 28th will see the Junior Camogie team in semi-final action against Gailtír B at the SETU Arena with a 12 noon throw-in. The girls have worked hard during the season, bringing a lot of young players into the team, and giving them plenty of game time, and have become a huge part in the playing set up. We would ask everyone to come along and show your support to the team on the day. Best of luck to the mentors and players.
CLOTHING COLLECTION:
Ferrybank GAA club has made the difficult decision to suspend its clothing collection for the foreseeable future. This is due to the ongoing challenges in the clothing process, driven by declining markets for used clothing, and the inability of recycling companies to reliably pick up donations. We sincerely thank everyone who has supported this initiative over the years, and we hope to resume collections when circumstances improve.
