LUKE HARNEY:
Everyone at Ferrybank GAA Club is deeply shocked and saddened by the sudden passing of Luke Harney. We wish to extend our heartfelt sympathies to Luke’s family and friends, and also to our neighbours in Kilmacow GAA and the wider community. Luke was a dear friend to so many within our club, and his loss will be felt deeply. It is hard to put into words the sadness we all feel. Ar dheis Dé go raibh a anam.

JUNIOR FOOTBALL:
Ferrybank began their Junior Football campaign with a share of the spoils against Erin’s Own last Saturday in Poleberry with the sides locked on 1-11 each. A last gasp point from Paddy Mackey ensured the team went away with a deserved point, though they had a couple of goal chances during the game that could have seen them come away with a win.
Erin’s Own got the opening points of the game, but Ferrybank replied with a goal when a pass from Sean found Reece who calmly slotted the ball to the net. Erin’s Own had a lot of possession in the opening half, but the lads in defence held firm. A point from Caolan MacCathmhaoil saw the sides level. Just before the break, Erin’s Own were awarded a penalty for a foul, and from the resulting spot kick, the ball was slotted into the corner of the net, giving Pawel no chance to leave it 1-4 to 1-01 at the break.
Ferrybank started well in the second-half and drew level with a two- pointer from Caolan. Erin’s Own restored the lead with their own two pointer, but that man Caolan again hit the range with another two-pointer. With the game now stretched at both ends, Ferrybank began to create chances, and Jay Bagge saw his close range shot well saved by the Erin’s Own goalkeeper. However, Jay scored a point moments later, to put the lads into the lead. Just when it looked like Ferrybank would move on and win the game, Erin’s Own were awarded a free, which resulted in a two-pointer to put them once again into the lead. With one last attack from Ferrybank the ball was played into Paddy who turned his marker, and palmed the ball over the bar for the leveller.
It took a bit of time for the team to get used to the new rules as the game went on, but they kept battling away, and improved as the game went on in the second-half. Hopefully this game will bring them on for next week’s match against Dunhill, which is provisionally set for next Saturday at 5pm in Ferrybank. Keep an eye on social media pages for any fixture change.
CAMOGIE:
Ferrybank Junior Camogie team were narrowly defeated by An Rinn last Saturday evening on a scoreline of 4-07 to 3-07. The team have now completed their league campaign, and now enter the knockout stages, with their opponents yet to be confirmed.
UNDER 16 HURLING:
The combined Ferrybank / Erin’s Own combined side are in Morris’ DIY U16 hurling final this coming Wednesday, where they play Fourmilewater in the SETU Arena with a 7:15pm throw-in. No doubt a stiff test awaits the team, who have made good progress over the last couple of games. We would ask everyone to come along and show your support on the night. Best of luck to all.
CLOTHING COLLECTION SUSPENSION:
Ferrybank GAA has made the difficult decision to suspend its clothing collection for the foreseeable future. This is due to ongoing challenges in the collection process, driven by the declining market, and the inability of recycling companies to reliably pick up donations.
We sincerely thank everyone who has supported this initiative over the years, and we hope to resume collections, when circumstances improve.
