KEARNEY'S CATERING ALL-COUNTY HURLING LEAGUE:
Our Senior Hurlers made the trip to Ballyduff Upper on Saturday evening to take on the home side in their second game in this year’s Kearney's Catering sponsored competition. Following a good game of hurling, it was the home team that claimed the spoils on a scoreline of 2-21 to 1-15.
It was even in the opening quarter with the sides level at 0-05 each. However, crucially, the home side got the upper hand, outscoring Ferrybank 1-11 to 0-01 in the second quarter, where Ferrybank hit seven wides in the process, which didn't help their cause.
Ferrybank improved a lot in the second half, and kept battling all the way, but a second goal for Ballyduff Upper finished the game as a contest. A useful workout for the team, despite being short a number of players, though on the other hand, it was good to see a number of the younger brigade getting valuable game time at this level.
UNDER 15 HURLING:
The combined Ferrybank/Erin’s Own side get their championship campaign underway this coming Wednesday, April 16th with a quarter final clash against Brickey Rangers in Poleberry with a 6:30pm start. No doubt a stiff test awaits the team, and all support will be welcomed on the night.
UNDER 12 HURLING & FOOTBALL:
Our U12 hurlers made it two wins from two last Friday evening with a good win over a spirited Ballygunner side. The team got some nice scores during the game, and the defence worked tirelessly, thwarting a lot of Ballygunner pressure as the game wore on, and the hard work paid dividends at the full-time whistle.
Thanks to Ballygunner for a good competitive game, and best wishes for the rest of the season, and to the supporters who came along and cheered on the boys.
TEAM: Jake, Oisín, Kane, Zac, Jackson, Darragh SW, Ben, Caiden, Reece, Connor B, Matthew, Darragh M.
It’s back to the big ball next Friday as the footballers play Gaultier at 6:30pm, and once again, all support will be greatly appreciated.
UNDER 15 CAMOGIE:
The Ferrybank U15 Camogie side made the trip to Bushy Park last Saturday morning to take part in the John West Féile competition.
Opponents in the group were hosts Brickey Rangers, Portlaw, and Tallow. The team got off to a good start, with a hard-fought win over Portlaw, and quickly followed up with another excellent performance overcoming the hosts Brickey's.
In their final game which was going to define top spot, the girls were narrowly edged out by Tallow following a ding dong battle, who will now go on to represent Waterford in the All-Ireland Féile, and we wish them the very best.
Overall, this was an excellent performance from this very young side, who will be all available for next year’s competition, and more importantly, a bright future awaits. Well done to all, and to the hard working coaches, who are making excellent progress with the team. Thanks also to Brickey's for being excellent hosts.
