COUNTY HURLING LEAGUE:
The Kearney’s Catering sponsored All-County Hurling League was up and running at the weekend, and Ferrybank welcomed Ballygunner over for their opening game of this year’s competition.
Played in glorious weather, there was little to separate both sides in the opening half. Early points from Mark O’Brien and Robbie Carew got the hosts off to a good start, but Ballygunner with some quick passes got in behind the Ferrybank defence to score a goal, which proved to be the only goal of the game. As the opening half went on, both sides traded points, with contributions from Mark O’Brien, Luke Flynn, Caolan MacCathmhaoil, Ruadhri McGarrity, and Shane Oates ensuring Ferrybank edged it at the break by 0-10 to 1-06.
Ballygunner began to get the upper hand in the second half, testing the Ferrybank defence, and a great save in the goal from Cormac O’Driscoll prevented a second goal, but as the game wore on, six unanswered scores from Ballygunner was key to the result, as they closed out a 1-17 to 0-14 win.
A very useful workout for the team, and they now make the trip to play Ballyduff Upper this coming Saturday, April 12th with a 7:30pm throw-in.
UNDER 15 FOOTBALL:
The combined Ferrybank/Erin’s Own team qualified for the final of the Morris’ DIY sponsored competition with a thrilling win over a spirited Ballyduff Upper team last Wednesday in Poleberry.
Trailing by 10 points at the break, it didn’t look good, but credit to the team, as they rolled up their sleeves and turned that deficit into a six-point win, winning on a scoreline of 5-09 to 5-03.
It’s now onto the final, where the date has yet to be confirmed.
UNDER 12 HURLING:
Our Under 12 hurlers got their season underway last Friday, where they welcomed Mount Sion to the field, and following a good game of hurling, the lads ran out worthy winners on the night.
The boys played some nice hurling throughout, and got some lovely scores to cap off a good night’s work. Well done lads, and next up, is another home game this coming Friday, April 11th at 6:30pm where they play Ballygunner, and once again, all support will be welcomed.
