ABP sponsored Ferrybank GAA Weekly Notes

INTERMEDIATE CAMOGIE:

The Intermediate Camogie side were defeated by a strong Clonea team last Friday in Ferrybank. Despite a tough opening half, credit to the girls, as they improved hugely in the second-half, matching their opponents score for score.

Clonea made the running in the opening half, with quick passing and striking, resulting in points being scored. The Ferrybank defence had a busy half, and only for some fine saves from Claire in the goal prevented Clonea from building a bigger lead. No doubt, a few harsh words were said at the break, as the girls came out all guns blazing, and early goals from Niamh and Aine got the team right back into it. This gave them a lot of confidence as they had plenty of possession, and fine points from Iona and Niamh (3) got them back within seven points. However, any chance of a comeback was soon dashed, as Clonea finally breached the net with a late goal of their own to run out good winners.

The girls can take a lot of encouragement out of this game, especially their second half performance, giving it everything, and being rewarded with their scores. It’s now onto the knockout stages for the team now, with their opponents yet to be confirmed, and more than likely it will take place in two weeks’ time. Thanks to all who came along and supported them on the night.

U13 HURLING:

On Tuesday last our U13 hurlers travelled to Kilgobinet to play Clashmore/Kinsalebeg in the Shield semi-final. Playing well, we went into an early lead 1-01 to no score with Paul getting both scores. As the game progressed, Clashmore/Kinsalebeg came more into the game and the teams were level 1-01 each at the break.

The second-half was a titanic battle with some great hurling and scores from both sides. Despite having played some fantastic hurling all over the field, we were 3 points down entering the final quarter. A great save by Tyler and clearance to Logan seemed to lift everyone and we then scored 3 unanswered points from Logan and Paul to level the game. Dion pointed to put us ahead and Clashmore/Kinsalebeg pointed to level the game again. The lads showed great composure in every position and defended superbly enabling us to launch further attacks leading to a goal from Jamie to put us ahead again and 2 further points sealed the win leading to great joy at the final whistle.

This was a very competitive game played by two well matched teams with Ferrybank winning out by 2-07 to 1-05. Thanks to everyone who travelled to Kilgobinet and gave great support to the lads and well done again to the lads on qualifying for the Shield Final.
