ABP sponsored Ferrybank GAA Weekly Notes

UNDER 12 HURLING:

Pride of place this week goes to the U12 hurlers who defeated a spirited De La Salle side last Thursday in Walsh park in the City League final, following a ding dong battle. Played in autumn sunshine and a gentle breeze, this game went down to the very last play, and the lads held out to claim a great win.

Ferrybank started the game well, and were unlucky not to have some scores on the board, in which Tadgh saw his goal-bound shot well saved by the De La Salle goalkeeper. It was De la Salle who opened the scoring from a converted '65, but it was quickly levelled up by a fine score from Logan. Once again, De La Salle edged ahead with a point, but Ferrybank were unlucky again, when a fine catch and strike from Jamie saw another good save from the goalkeeper. Scores were hard to come by in the game, but that was due to the excellent defending by both teams. The Ferrybank forwards just kept plugging away, and finally their hard graft was rewarded with a goal from Sam who was first to react when the sliothar broke, and he hit a first time shot on the ground to the corner of the net to put the lads in front. Just before the half-time break, De La Salle pointed to leave it 1-01 to 0-3 at the break.

Similar to the opening half, the second-half was another tight affair, with the defence of Jackson, Logan, Jack H, Darragh S.W. protecting the goal, Dion and Conor beavering away in the middle of the park, while up front Oscar, Alex, Jamie, Ben, Sam, and Matthew ensured the De La Salle defence didn’t have an easy time. Again, another De la Salle point levelled it up, and with the game in the melting pot, that man Logan took a super catch, went on a great run, and hit a sweet strike that sailed between the posts that turned out to be the match winning score. With time almost up, the Ferrybank defence had to survive a nervy moment, when it looked like De La Salle were in for a goal, only for a fine save from Matthew, and the ball fell to Jackson who cleared to safety, and the final whistle sounded amid joyous scenes among the players.

Well done lads, and to coaches Johnny, Andrew, Cormac and Fintan for guiding the team to winning the City League. Thanks to all the parents and supporters who came along, and supported the team on the night.

TEAM: Conor, Dion, Oscar (C), Jamie, Jackson, Alex, Sam, Darragh S.W., Logan, Darragh K, Tadgh, Ben, Jack H, Kevin, Jack T.H., Matthew, Mikey, Frances.

JUNIOR FOOTBALL:

Our Junior Footballers are in knockout action this coming Saturday, September 21st with a trip to play Rathgormack with a 5:30pm throw-in.

UNDER 13 HURLING:

It's Shield final action this coming Tuesday, September 17th for the U13s where they play Tramore in the SETU Arena AT 6:30pm. The lads had a great win over Clashmore in the semi-final, and will go into the final with a lot of confidence. Best of luck lads, and also to the coaches, and we would encourage everyone to come along on the night, and cheer on the team. Tickets for the match can be purchased here.

UNDER 15 HURLING:

The combined Ferrybank / Erin’s Own side were defeated in heart-breaking fashion last Monday in St Saviours’ GAA grounds on a penalty shootout by Clonea, after the game finished level in normal, and also extra time. Key second half goals from Clonea kept them in the hunt, as Ferrybank / Erin’s Own had most of the play throughout, and it was 1-16 to 4-07 after extra time. However, the penalty shootout went in Clonea's favour, and best of luck to them in the final. Hard luck lads, thanks to John and Áine for assisting with the team during the campaign.

UNDER 10 HURLING:

It was a busy week for the U10 hurlers with two games in 24 hours. Last Thursday the team made a short spin to take on local neighbours Slieverue in a good competitive game that saw both teams put in strong performances. The following evening, the team welcomed Stradbally to Ferrybank, and the lads didn’t let their exertions get to them from the previous evening, by putting in another good display on the night.

UNDER 13 CAMOGIE:

Well done to the U13 Camogie side who recorded a great win over a gallant Tallow side last Saturday morning. The team are making nice progress, and improving with each game, and ran out worthy winners. Next up is a trip to Ardmore next Saturday. September 21st against St. Declan’s, and once again, all support will be welcomed on the day.
