ABP sponsored Ferrybank GAA Weekly Notes

COUNTY HURLING LEAGUE:

Our Senior hurlers completed their County Hurling league programme in Clonea last Friday, where the homeside ran out worthy winners. Early goals from Clonea ensured they had a firm grip on the game, and despite the best efforts from the team, Clonea on the day were far sharper throughout the field to claim the points.

Obviously, the attention now turns to the Championship campaign, with the opening game scheduled to take place on Saturday, July 20th in Walsh Park against Abbeyside with a 5pm throw-in.

UNDER 13 HURLING:

Our U13 hurlers began their Championship season with a good win over Tramore last Wednesday on a scoreline of 5-05 to 3-02. A solid performance from the team, whose display throughout the game will certainly have pleased the coaches, with some good scores taken in front of the goal.

Well done to all, and next up for the team, is a trip to play Clashmore/Kinsalebeg this coming Wednesday, June 12th at 7pm.

TEAM: Tyler, Logan, Ryan, Alex, Tadgh, Dean, James, Conor, Luke, Paul, Matteo, Jamie, Jake, Jack H, Mikey, Ben, Francis, Kevin.

UNDER 12 HURLING & FOOTBALL:

It’s a busy week for the U12s with matches taking place on Monday against Portlaw, while on Friday, Brickey Rangers will provide the opposition.

UNDER 11 FOOTBALL:

Our U11 Footballers made the short spin to Butlerstown last Monday to take on the homeside and Gaultier. A good enjoyable day for the team, who competed in each game, and this young side are making nice progress as the season moves along. Thanks to Butlerstown for the invite.

UNDER 10 FOOTBALL:

Ferrybank’s U10s took on Kilrossanty and Butlerstown in a blitz last Saturday week, in what turned out to be a very good outing. No quarter was given, by any of the teams, and plenty of defending, and score taking was on display. This was another excellent workout for the team, and thanks to Butlerstown for the invite.

UNDER 6 & 7 HURLING:

Training continues on Friday night for the under 6 and 7 hurlers, where new players are most welcome to come down and get involved (Born in 2017, 18, 19). Hurling and Helmets provided, and it’s free to play, under the watchful eye of the qualified coaches.

COUNTY DUTY:

Well done to Iona Heffernan and the Waterford Senior Camogie team that secured a vital point against near-neighbours Kilkenny in Nowlan Park last Saturday afternoon.

UNDER 12 CAMOGIE:

Our U12 Camogie teams were in action last Thursday, with both teams making the trip to Roanmore and Mount Sion respectively. Both teams excelled on the night, showing great heart, and commitment, and more importantly playing as a team. Well done to all, and more importantly, to the coaches, who have worked hard with the team from the start of the campaign, and ensured that two teams were able to compete at this level.

WELL!KIDS PROGRAMME:

The Well!Kids programme continues this coming Saturday morning from 10am to 11am. This is open to boys and girls aged between 4-7. It’s free to attend, where equipment can be provided if needs be. The emphasis is based on fun, and learning our game in a fun, but safe environment.

DÉISE DRAW:

The Déise Draw will commence again this year starting on July 12th, with the first draw being broadcast live on WLR. Similar to last year, there will be six draws between July and November, with the 1st prize a nice €10k, 2nd prize €3k, 3rd prize €2k, all the way down to number 16.

Over €126k in prize money will be distributed in the Déise Draw, and as usual, there will be bonus prizes and holiday vouchers along the way.

The Déise Draw has been a vital source of income for Ferrybank GAA club over the last number of years, as 70% of the income is retained by the club itself, which goes towards the day-to-day running of the club’s expenditure.

Tickets for the six draws cost €100, and once again, we ask everyone associated with the club to show your support and purchase a Déise Draw ticket, which can be obtained by contacting Nicky Heffernan 087-6724212, or any committee member.

Living abroad? You can still enter the Déise Draw if you’re living away from home. Simply click on this link and nominate Ferrybank GAA club.
