ABP sponsored Ferrybank GAA Weekly Notes

COUNTY HURLING LEAGUE:

Our Senior hurlers played out an entertaining draw with Tallow in their latest league game in Dungarvan last Friday night.

Played in lovely sunny conditions, the Tallow men raced into a three-point lead, but a fine flowing move involving Mark O’ Brien and Robbie Carew saw the ball transferred to Ruaidhri McGarrity and he made no mistake from close range. Moments later, a second goal arrived following a mazy run from Neil O’ Sullivan and he drilled a low shot into the corner of the net. From then on, both sides enjoyed a period of points with contributions from Mark O’ Brien (5), Neil O’Sullivan, Ruaidhri McGarrity ensuring the lads lead narrowly 2-08 to 0-11 at the break.

Both sides exchanged scores quickly in the second half, with Jay Bagge and MJ Sutton pointing. Fyrther points from Mark O’ Brien and Jay Bagge opened up a four-point lead for Ferrybank. Tallow, like in the opening half, enjoyed a purple patch and replied with four points to level it. Moments later, a fast-flowing move from Tallow saw them open up the Ferrybank defence to score their first goal. Credit to the lads however, as they kept going with points from MJ Sutton and Mark O’ Brien. Entering the final closing moments, a third goal arrived which saw Mark ship a few tackles, had a look up, and delivered a quick ball to Robbie Carew, who turned his man, and scored from close range.

However, straight from the puck out, Ferrybank lost possession and a quick counter attack from Tallow, and they made no mistake in planting the ball into the net. Tallow regained the lead close to full time, but a late free awarded to Ferrybank saw Izaak Richards step up and from the half-way line, he made no mistake putting the ball over the bar to level it up on a scoreline of 3-18 to 2-21.

A useful run out for the team, and this coming Friday, they play Clonea away at 7:30pm in their final league match.

DÉISE DRAW:

Living abroad? You can still enter the Déise Draw if you’re living away from home. Simply click on this link and nominate Ferrybank GAA club.

The Déise Draw will commence again this year starting on July 12th, with the first draw being broadcast live on WLR. Similar to last year, there will be six draws between July and November, with the 1st prize a nice €10k, 2nd prize €3k, 3rd prize €2k, all the way down to number 16.

Over €126k in prize money will be distributed in the Déise Draw, and as usual, there will be bonus prizes and holiday vouchers along the way.

The Déise Draw has been a vital source of income for Ferrybank GAA club over the last number of years, as 70% of the income is retained by the club itself, which goes towards the day-to-day running of the club’s expenditure.

Tickets for the six draws cost €100, and once again, we ask everyone associated with the club to show your support and purchase a Déise Draw ticket, which can be obtained by contacting Nicky Heffernan 087-6724212, or any committee member.

Thanks to Gailtír for coming over.
