ABP sponsored Ferrybank GAA Weekly Notes

SENIOR HURLING LEAGUE:

The Senior hurlers went down narrowly to Fourmilewater last Sunday morning in their second game in this year’s All-County Division 2 Hurling league on a scoreline of 0-25 to 1-18. This was an entertaining game, and despite Ferrybank closing the gap on a couple of times during the game, they couldn’t draw level as the game went on.

It was Fourmilewater who opened the scoring with a point, but Neil O’ Sullivan quickly levelled up the game. Two more Fourmilewater points extended the lead, but a point from Mark O’ Brien reduced the gap. With further points exchanged with Mark O’ Brien and Neil O’ Sullivan, there was little to separate the sides. Ferrybank missed a few scoring chances as the opening half went on, but they didn’t leave Fourmilewater too far ahead. Points from Mark O’ Brien (2), Robbie Carew, and Jay Bagge left the half-time score 0-11 to 0-08.

Quick second-half scores from Mark O’ Brien reduced the gap to a minimum, but again Fourmilewater would get the next couple of points with some quick passing movements. Fine scores from Caolan MacCathmhaoil and Seamus Burtchaell kept Ferrybank in the mix. A couple of loose passes were punished by Fourmilewater, and with the game entering its closing minutes a long ball by Caolan MacCathmhaoil into the Fourmilewater area was contested by Ruaidhri McGarrity, and the ball fell to MJ Sutton who got the ball over the line to reduce the gap to two points. However, straight away, another passing movement saw Fourmilewater put over two fine points to seal the win.

A good game, and the lads worked hard throughout, where the defence was solid enough, not giving any goal chances to their opponents, and with a bit more composure in front of goal, they could have tagged over another few points. Thanks to all who came down to watch the match.

Scorers: Mark O’ Brien (0-10), MJ Sutton (1-02), Neil O’ Sullivan (0-02), Robbie Carew (0-01), Jay Bagge (0-01), Caolan MacCathmhaoil (0-01), Seamus Burtchaell (0-01).

MINOR HURLING LEAGUE:

The combined Ferrybank / St. Saviour’s side defeated Passage in the Minor Hurling League last Wednesday on a scoreline of 4-12 to 2-13. The team led from start to finish, scoring two goals in both halves, and crucially that was the difference against a side who kept battling all the way to the end. A good win for the team.

UNDER 15 FOOTBALL:

No joy for the combined Ferrybank / Erin’s Own side as they were defeated by Cois Bhride in Tallow last Monday. Goals win matches, and this was the story in this game as the homeside ran out 8-05 to 4-04 winners on the night. It’s another away game for the team where they play Ballyduff Upper on Wednesday, May 1st at 7:30pm.

UNDER 13 FOOTBALL:

Our U13 Footballers have a home match against Tramore on Tuesday evening at 6:30pm, all support greatly appreciated on the night.

UNDER 12 HURLING:

Our U12 hurlers made the trip to Clashmore/Kinsalebeg on Friday and came away with a win. Well done to all the boys. The focus switches to the big ball game for the next two weeks for the U12s, and they play away in Stradbally this coming Friday.

UNDER 10 FOOTBALL:

Our two U10 Football teams played a blitz in Tramore on Saturday morning. In awful weather conditions the boys gave it their all and performed very well in all three games each team played.

COUNTY DUTY:

It was a busy weekend for some of our players representing the county over the weekend. Well done to Iona Heffernan and the Waterford Senior Camogie team that defeated Limerick, and have now qualified for the Munster semi-final with Tipperary awaiting next. Also, well done to Ciara Haley who lined out for the Waterford Under 15 Camogie side that played Wexford in Ferrybank last Saturday morning.

Well done also to Sean Adeymei, Conor Haley and Harry Flanagan, who lined out for the Waterford Celtic Challenge team that defeated Derry in Dundalk last Saturday afternoon. Best of luck to Ruaidhri McGarrity and the Waterford U20 hurling team who make the trip to Sixmilebridge this coming Friday to play Clare.
