ABP sponsored Ferrybank GAA Weekly Notes

ALL-COUNTY HURLING LEAGUE:

Our Senior hurlers played their first game of the All-County Hurling League last Saturday afternoon. The team made the trip to Lismore, in what was a good game, with the home side prevailing on a scoreline of 3-14 to 2-13.

With a cross-field wind blowing, Lismore made it difficult for the lads in the opening half, by moving the ball a lot quicker, which resulted in two goals being scored. Ferrybank had a chance of a goal, after Ruaidhri McGarrity was fouled in the area, but Mark O’ Brien’s penalty struck the crossbar, and the ball was cleared to safety. A fine point by Caolan MacCathmhaoil in that half ensured the team trailed 2-08 to 0-08 at the break.

Ferrybank didn’t help themselves early in the second half, when a short puck out went astray, and it was punished by the Lismore attacker. However, the team got used to the pace of the game, and Ruaidhri McGarrity was rewarded for his efforts with two goals, showing great determination to finish the sliothar to the net.

A good effort from the team, who will have learned a lot from this game, particularly in the second half, where they improved a lot. TEAM: Cormac O’ Driscoll, Damien Ahern, Naoise MacCathmhaoil, John Ahern, Caolan MacCathmhaoil, Cormac Heffernan, Izaak Richards, Shane Oates, Robbie Carew, Luke Flynn, Shane S, Jay Bagge, Ruaidhri McGarrity, Eoin O’ Neill, Neil O’ Sullivan, Ryan Tierney, Kyle Daly, Greg Murphy.
