ABP sponsored Ferrybank GAA Weekly Notes

JUNIOR FOOTBALL:

Our Junior Footballers exited this year’s Tony Kirwan Plant Hire Eastern Championship going down to a good John Mitchell’s side at a foggy Fenor last Sunday afternoon on a scoreline of 4-11 to 1-06.

Despite a point from Greg Murphy in the opening minute, John Mitchell’s quickly replied with a goal and two points when some quick passing caught out the defence, and the ball was drilled past Pawel Tomczuk in the goal. Ferrybank came more into the game, and three unanswered points from Ryan Tierney, Ruadhri McGarrity and Greg Murphy reduced the gap. However, the lads paid the price when a misplaced pass went straight to a John Mitchell’s player, whose quick delivery into the full forward line was duly slotted into the corner of the net. That goal took the sting out of the team’s play, and three unanswered points increased the lead further. Just before the break, some good build up play saw Stephen O' Kane’s shot hitting the underside of the bar, and cleared to safety. At the break, John Mitchell’s lead by 2-06 to 0-04.

The game was over as a contest inside the opening minutes, when John Mitchell’s hit 2-02 in quick succession. The lads battled away, and were finally rewarded with a goal, when some good work from Shane Oates, whose pass put in Jack Keogh, to calmly finish from close range.

The match began to peter out as it went on, and despite points from Greg Murphy (2), John Mitchell’s comfortably saw the game out, and qualified for the semi-finals, where we wish them well. Thanks to Robbie Carew, who oversaw the football team during the campaign.

TEAM: Pawel Tomczuk, Maciez Tomczuk, John Ahern, Damien Ahern, Luke Flynn, Mark O’ Brien, Shane Oates, Ruadhri McGarrity (0-01), Stephen O’ Kane, Cormac O’ Driscoll, Ryan Tierney (0-01), Jack Keogh (1-00), John Collins, Greg Murphy (0-04), Graham Coady, Eoin O’ Neill.

UNDER 14 HURLING:

The combined Ferrybank / St. Saviour’s team were defeated by Tramore in the semi-final last Saturday morning. Prior to that game, the combined side defeated Sacred Heart on Thursday evening in the quarter-final, with Mark Flanagan scoring 3-04. Cameron G, Darragh M, and Jake also found the net.

However, 36 hours later, Tramore just proved too good on the day, winning narrowly on a scoreline of 1-10 to 0-10. The team had a few chances to get scores, but did not take them at key stages.

COUNTY CAMOGIE HURLING SKILLS:

The County Camogie skills competition took place in Butlerstown last Sunday, where Ferrybank Camogie had two girls representing the club. It was a great day for Zara Kelly who came 1st in the Long Puck category, while also competing was Karimat Olorunatela.

Well done girls, all the hard work is now paying dividends.

UNDER 13 CAMOGIE:

No joy for the U13 side as they were defeated by Cappoquin last Saturday morning. There was little to separate the sides throughout the game, but the girls from the west took their chances when it mattered most, but credit to the team, as they battled all the way to the end. Next up is a trip to play Ballyduff Lower on Saturday, October 14th.

UNDER 15 CAMOGIE:

Our U15 Camogie team received a walkover from Brickey Rangers, and therefore have qualified for the semi-finals, which are scheduled to take place next Sunday, October 15th.

UNDER 8 HURLING:

Our U8s made the trip to Gracedieu last Sunday to play De La Salle in some enjoyable games. Both sides played five games, displaying great determination throughout, and working hard for each other, and more importantly enjoying themselves.

Well done to everyone, and thanks to Liam and De La Salle for inviting us over on the day.

TEAM: Joey, Logan, Freddie, David F, Jamie, Killian, Lorenzo, Zoey, Cadyn, Bobby, Mason, Caelan, David P, Tiernan, Hugo, Dima.

UNDER 6 CAMOGIE:

Our U6 Camogie side made the trip to Mount Sion last Saturday. On a good morning for the matches, the girls showed plenty of energy on the field, and put in a huge effort throughout the game, which pleased the mentors, and parents. Thanks to Mount Sion for the invite.

TEAM: Alice, Aoibhinn, Saoirse, Ada, Millie, Summer, Lucy, Aine, Farah, Rosie, Shiloh.
