ABP sponsored Ferrybank GAA Weekly Notes

UNDER 15 HURLING:

No joy for the combined Ferrybank / St. Saviour’s team last Saturday, as they were defeated in the Déise in Dublin sponsored final by Cappoquin / Naomh Brid at a rain and wind lashed Stradbally on a scoreline of 0-09 to 0-05. With the game previously postponed, it was a tough day for both sides, as conditions for the game were tough to play in. No fault to the Ferrybank / St. Saviour’s team, as they battled all the way, but the men from the west, took their scores, especially in the second-half.

Aided by the breeze in the opening half, Ferrybank / St. Saviour’s conceded the opening score of the game, but John Cash quickly levelled it up with a fine point. Ferrybank / St Saviour’s had a number of opportunities to score points, but the chances went a begging, before two placed balls from Jacob opened up a two point lead. With both sides finding it hard to hold onto the ball, good hurling was out of the question, with plenty of slipping and sliding happening. Another point from Evan extended the lead. However, just before the break, a pointed free from Cappoquin / Naomh Brid reduced the gap to two at the midway stage. Crucially, Cappoquin / Naomh Brid drew level with two points in the opening minutes of the second half, and from there on slowly began to get on top, with another four unanswered points to open up a four point lead. A badly needed point from Evan reduced the gap to three, and despite getting the ball into the Cappoquin / Naomh Brid area, the chance wasn’t taken. A final point from a placed ball ensured the win for Cappoquin / Naomh Brid.

The team worked hard on the day, but the scores just wouldn’t come, and no doubt their day will come. It’s been a good season for this team, winning the football competition, and making the final in the hurling, so great work and effort has been put in throughout the campaign. A huge thanks to Derek, Brian, Aine, Kieran, and Dayne for looking after the team, and to all the parents and supporters for coming along and showing great support in every match.

UNDER 10 HURLING:

Our U10 hurlers welcomed near neighbours Slieverue to the GAA grounds last Friday for a good competitive game. Both teams gave the supporters plenty to enjoy, as they displayed some excellent skills, and battled all the way to the end. Well done to all, and no doubt the trainers and coaches will be pleased to see all the hard work paying dividends.

FAMILY FUN DAY:

It was third time lucky last Sunday morning, as the sun shone brightly on our Family Fun day. After a few weather related cancellations the previous two Sundays, it was a wonderful day all round, with plenty of thrills and spills for the children to get stuck into. No doubt they all went home exhausted. As we all know, these events cannot take place without the volunteers who sit down to organise things, giving up their free time, and ensuring everything runs smoothly on the day. It would be hard to remember every name, so thank you to everyone who contributed to the event, to the people who baked cakes, brought sandwiches, refreshments, buns, sweets, and many more items for the Fun Day. Thank you.

TEAM 100:

With the playing season in full flow, many people will have seen the progression of the new clubhouse development. Phase 2 (shell and core) is nearing completion, and we are preparing for Phase 3 (fit out) with your help. This is the biggest capital development project in the history of Ferrybank GAA club. With the recent upsurge in the underage section, this development will benefit these juvenile members and indeed the wider community far into the future.

This project will deliver a new building, consisting of modern dressing rooms, and a community orientated multipurpose rooms for all.

Team 100 has delivered numerous projects for Ferrybank GAA club in the past, including our hurling alley, running track, ball stoppers, pitch drainage, car park tarmacking, and the initial enabling works for this new project. We would ask everyone associated with the club; parents, supporters and players to join Team 100, and contribute to the continued development of the club and community.

Joining Team 100 involves paying a €25 per month standing-order (€6.25 per week) to the club, which covers your full-membership for the year. This works out as the price of a few cups of coffee/tea a week.

Please talk to any member, mentor, trainer or e-mail ferrybankgaa@gmail.com for an application form to join Team 100.
