ABP sponsored Ferrybank GAA Weekly Notes

INTERMEDIATE CAMOGIE:

Our Intermediate Camogie team bowed out at the quarter-final stage of this year’s championship last Saturday evening, going down to a strong Modeligo outfit, in St Mary’s Park on a scoreline of 6-08 to 3-06.

On a horrendous evening for the game, the girls put in a tremendous effort from the start,  despite playing with the elements in the opening half, the concession of three first half goals proved the difference, as they trailed by 3-04 to 2-05 at the break.

Even though the girls battled away in the second-half, including a goal, which brought them right back into it, two late goals from Modeligo put clear daylight between the teams and therefore they booked a place in the semi-final against Lismore.

The Ferrybank girls gave it their all in the match, it’s important to acknowledge their dedication and hard work. The coaching and preparation by Paul Barry, Yvonne Murphy Grant, and Paul Martin also deserve recognition for their efforts in getting the team ready. Despite the outcome, the team’s determination and spirit are commendable, they should be proud of their performance.

JUNIOR FOOTBALL:

The Junior footballers made it two from two in the Tony Kirwan Plant Hire Eastern A Championship with a hard fought win over Gaultier last Saturday afternoon, winning on a scoreline of 3-14 to 0-14. It was the homeside who made the early running with a couple of points, but a goal from Stephen O’ Kane settled the side down, along with points from Jack Keogh and Greg Murphy brought the team back into it.

Gaultier capitalised on some poor defending, ensuring a lead of 0-09 to 1-04 at the break. Ferrybank improved a lot in the second -half, and a second goal arrived following a flowing move, which saw Greg Murphy bundle the ball home from close range. Crucially, another goal soon arrived with a shot from Jack Keogh that dipped over the goalkeeper’s head into the top corner of the net. Pawel Tomczulk in goal pulled off a few vital saves to keep his goal intact. The introduction of Martin Freeman brought a bit of calmness into the team’s play entering the closing minutes, in which points from Ruadhri McGarrity, Ryan Tierney, Jack Keogh, and Greg Murphy saw us over the line to claim the points.

Next up for the team is a trip to play Rathgormack on Sunday, October 1st at 1pm.

It’s free to take part, with the evenings now getting shorter, this is a great way to keep yourself active over the winter period, keep moving, and an ideal way to meet some new running buddies. We look forward to welcoming everyone.

TEAM 100:

With the playing season in full flow, many people will have seen the progression of the new clubhouse development. Phase 2 (shell and core) is nearing completion, and we are preparing for Phase 3 (fit out) with your help. This is the biggest capital development project in the history of Ferrybank GAA club. With the recent upsurge in the underage section, this development will benefit these juvenile members and indeed the wider community far into the future.

This project will deliver a new building, consisting of modern dressing rooms, and a community orientated multipurpose rooms for all.

Team 100 has delivered numerous projects for Ferrybank GAA club in the past, including our hurling alley, running track, ball stoppers, pitch drainage, car park tarmacking, and the initial enabling works for this new project. We would ask everyone associated with the club; parents, supporters and players to join Team 100, and contribute to the continued development of the club and community.

Joining Team 100 involves paying a €25 per month standing-order (€6.25 per week) to the club, which covers your full-membership for the year. This works out as the price of a few cups of coffee/tea a week.

Please talk to any member, mentor, trainer or e-mail ferrybankgaa@gmail.com for an application form to join Team 100.
