ABP sponsored Ferrybank GAA Weekly Notes

INTERMEDIATE CAMOGIE:

It’s a big week for the Ferrybank Intermediate Camogie team, as they travel to St. Mary’s Park, Modeligo this coming Saturday, September 23rd at 5pm in the quarter-final of the Championship. The girls have put in a huge effort over the last couple of weeks, preparing for this game, and no doubt it won’t be easy. We would encourage everyone from the club to travel down, and show your support for the team on the night. Best of luck to Paul Barry, Paul Martin, Yvonne, and indeed the team.

JUNIOR FOOTBALL:

Our Junior Footballers edged out St. Molleran’s in their opening game in this year’s Tony Kirwan Plant Hire Eastern Football Championship on a scoreline of 1-07 to 1-05. With a lot of rain having fallen in the few days before the match, the pitch was in good condition for the game to go ahead.

The opening half saw scores at a premium with Ferrybank leading by 0-03 to 0-01, thanks mainly through the accuracy of Darryl Griffin from placed balls and Ruadhri McGarrity.

In the second-half, a crucial goal from Ryan Tierney put daylight between the sides, and even though St. Molleran’s replied with a goal of their own, points from John Collins and Darryl Griffin saw the team close out the win.

Next up, is a trip to play Gaultier on Saturday, September 23rd at 1:30pm.

UNDER 15 HURLING:

The combined Ferrybank / St. Saviour’s team qualified for the final of the Déise in Dublin sponsored competition with a hard fought win over Sacred Heart last Tuesday in Carriganore on a scoreline of 1-17 to 1-13. U8 HURLING:

Our U8 hurlers were in blitz action last Saturday morning, where they made the trip to the SETU Arena in Carriganore to play Erin’s Own and Ballygunner.

On a nippy morning for action, the lads got straight down to business with another excellent all round team performance, showing plenty of skill, movement, passing with the ball, resulting in some nice scores. Their effort on the field was rewarded with a trip to Supermacs for a well-earned meal. Well done everyone, and the team would wish David P, a speedy recovery who wasn’t able to line out due to illness. Back to training this coming Monday at 6:30pm.

With the team welcoming Summer into the match day squad, the girls got down to action straight away with another polished performances in the matches. It’s an action packed hour of fun-filled activities for all to enjoy. Once again, new members are welcome to come along and get involved, and more importantly it’s free to partake. PREMIER INTERMEDIATE HURLING:

A week on from their superb win of the Pat Hunt Cup win, the Ferrybank hurlers paid visits to St. Mary’s Boys’ National School, Our Lady’s Good Counsel Girls National School, St. Patrick’s National School, Strangsmills, and Abbey Community Secondary School.

Plenty of excitement throughout the schools, as the players spoke about the win on the day, and all the effort that went into winning the competition. Thanks to all the schools for their help, and to the players for giving up their time to visit the schools.

TEAM 100:

With the playing season in full flow, many people will have seen the progression of the new clubhouse development. Phase 2 (shell and core) is nearing completion, and we are preparing for Phase 3 (fit out) with your help. This is the biggest capital development project in the history of Ferrybank GAA club. With the recent upsurge in the underage section, this development will benefit these juvenile members and indeed the wider community far into the future.

This project will deliver a new building, consisting of modern dressing rooms, and a community orientated multipurpose rooms for all.

Team 100 has delivered numerous projects for Ferrybank GAA club in the past, including our hurling alley, running track, ball stoppers, pitch drainage, car park tarmacking, and the initial enabling works for this new project. We would ask everyone associated with the club; parents, supporters and players to join Team 100, and contribute to the continued development of the club and community.

Joining Team 100 involves paying a €25 per month standing-order (€6.25 per week) to the club, which covers your full-membership for the year. This works out as the price of a few cups of coffee/tea a week.

Please talk to any member, mentor, trainer or e-mail ferrybankgaa@gmail.com for an application form to join Team 100.
