ABP sponsored Ferrybank GAA Weekly Notes

TEAM 100:

With the playing season in full flow, many people will have seen the progression of the new clubhouse development. Phase 2 (shell and core) is nearing completion, and we are preparing for Phase 3 (fit out) with your help. This is the biggest capital development project in the history of Ferrybank GAA club. With the recent upsurge in the underage section, this development will benefit these juvenile members and indeed the wider community far into the future.

This project will deliver a new building, consisting of modern dressing rooms, and a community orientated multipurpose rooms for all.

Team 100 has delivered numerous projects for Ferrybank GAA club in the past, including our hurling alley, running track, ball stoppers, pitch drainage, car park tarmacking, and the initial enabling works for this new project. We would ask everyone associated with the club; parents, supporters and players to join Team 100, and contribute to the continued development of the club and community.

Joining Team 100 involves paying a €25 per month standing-order (€6.25 per week) to the club, which covers your full-membership for the year. This works out as the price of a few cups of coffee/tea a week.

Please talk to any member, mentor, trainer or e-mail ferrybankgaa@gmail.com for an application form to join Team 100.

PREMIER INTERMEDIATE HURLING:

Its quarter-final action for the Ferrybank Intermediate hurlers this coming Friday, August 25th at 7:30pm in the SETU Arena, Carriganore, as they play Tramore in the Premier Intermediate Hurling Championship. On paper, there is going to be very little between these two teams, so a close match is expected.

All support on the night will be welcomed, so best of luck to Paddy, Stan, Fintan, and indeed the team.

Tickets for the match must be pre-purchased online from https://www.universe.com/events/waterford-gaa-co-pihc-quarter-final-tramore-v-ferrybank-tickets-Y0ZLWN

JUNIOR C HURLING:

Our Junior hurlers exited this year’s Championship going down to Portlaw last Thursday on a scoreline of 4-16 to 3-15 in the quarter-finals. Despite leading 2-08 to 1-08 at the break, the lads extended the lead to seven points entering the final 10 minutes. However, a late surge from the home side, which yielded 2-05 without reply, saw them over the line and into the semi-finals.

MINOR HURLING:

Our Minor hurlers completed their group league matches last Wednesday with a hard fought win over Brickey Rangers on a scoreline of 2-20 to 2-17.

The lads started the game well with scores from Conor Haley, Jay Bagge, Fionn McGarrity, and Caolan MacCathmhaoil, which ensured a 1-10 to 1-08 lead at the break.

Points in the second-half from Jacob Richards and Jay Bagge extended the lead to four points, but Brickeys came a lot more into it, and drew level midway through the second-half. However, a pass from Evan Mullally sent Conor Haley through on goal, and he made no mistake from close range with a fine goal. Further scores from Adam Aspel, Caolan MacCathmhaoil, Jay Bagge and Jacob Richards extended the lead out to six points.

With virtually the last puck of the ball, Brickys were rewarded with a late goal, but it was too little too late, as the whistle blew.

A good win for the team, which now concludes their league games, and with five wins and a draw ensured top spot in the group. This now means a semi-final meeting against Tramore, which takes place this coming Wednesday, August 23rd at 6:30pm in St Saviours’ GAA grounds, Ballybeg. When these sides met in the round-robin stage, Ferrybank narrowly came out on top, so another close game is on the cards. Support will be crucial, so please come out and hopefully the lads can make it into the final. Best of luck to Robbie Carew, Davy Atkins, Ryan Tierney, and indeed the team.

INTERMEDIATE CAMOGIE:

Our Intermediate Camogie match scheduled to take place last Friday against Gailtír was postponed due to the weather conditions, and will be re-scheduled at a later date.

Next up for the team is a home game against Dungarvan this coming Sunday, August 27th at 11:30am. The girls have put in a lot of hard work over the last few months, and hopefully they can get off to a winning start. So, please come along to the field and show your support.

UNDER 15 HURLING:

The combined Ferrybank / St. Saviour’s team suffered their first defeat in this year’s competition last Monday, going down narrowly to Fourmilewater in Ballymacarby on a scoreline of 2-11 to 0-14. The team have one more match to play against Brickey Rangers on Monday, August 28th at 7pm in Ferrybank.

UNDER 13 HURLING:

UNDER 14 CAMOGIE:

Its semi-final action this coming Thursday August 24th, as the team travels to play Cappoquin at 6:30pm. The girls have had some good wins along the way, and let’s hope they can put in another performance to qualify for the final. Best of luck to the team, and once again, all support will be welcome on the night.

UNDER 12 CAMOGIE:

It was heartbreak for the U12 Camogie team, as they went down fighting to Mount Sion in the semi-final last Thursday night on a scoreline of 1-04 to 0-03. It was one of those nights for the team, as they created plenty of scoring chances, and the ball just would not go over the bar, and more importantly into the net.

The girls fought to the end, and never gave up, which no doubt pleased the trainers and mentors. Credit to Mount Sion for playing their part in an exciting game, which kept all the parents on their toes for the whole game, and best of luck in the final.

UNDER 8 HURLING:

Our U8 hurlers made the trip to Ballyhale last Saturday morning. On a good morning for the matches, Ferrybank welcomed Kyle into the match day squad for his debut appearance, and overall, it was another excellent day for the team, with plenty of determination shown on the field, resulting in good passages of play, and plenty of scores being taken. Thanks to Ballyhale for inviting us up for the games.

UNDER 6 ACADEMY:

Our U6 Academy team took part in a blitz hosted by Mooncoin. With up to 30 teams taking part, it was a busy morning for everyone concerned. The team gave debuts to Noah and Oisin on the day, and like everyone else, they acquitted themselves very well during the games. A great morning was had by all, and thanks to all the coaches and parents for giving up their time to attend the games, and to Mooncoin GAA club for inviting us to play in a well-run blitz.

UNDER 8 & 10 CAMOGIE BLITZ:

The club hosted their annual Under 8 and 10 Camogie blitz last Sunday morning. We welcomed Mount Sion, St. Anne's, Roanmore, and An Rinn. On a nice morning for the games, the teams got down to action, all matches were evenly matched, and well contested, with some nice skill shown on the field, which kept the large crowd enthralled. A word of thanks to all the coaches, volunteers, young whistlers, and people who set up the pitches, for organising a well-run event. Thanks also to the parents who supplied some lovely treats for the afters for all of the kids to enjoy. Thanks to all the teams for coming over.

COUNTY DUTY:

Congratulations to Ciara and Eve who were part of the U14 Camogie team that were on duty with the Waterford U14 development squad that took part in a blitz last Saturday in Borrisoleigh GAA grounds, Tipperary. The team played Laois, Cork, and Galway on the day.

CAMOGIE RAFFLE:

The Camogie club are holding a raffle fundraiser, with a fantastic Apple Watch as the main prize on offer. Tickets cost €5 or 2 for €10 etc, as we would ask everyone to support this cause.

FAMILY FUN DAY:

The club will be hosting a free admission Family Fun Day on Sunday, September 10th from 11am to 3pm. There will be plenty of fun-filled activities on the day for everyone to enjoy, including old favourites such as the egg and spoon race, 3-legged races, hurling and football, and many more. Plenty of refreshments on offer for everyone too. In the lead up to the Family Fun Day, hurling on the greens will take place in various housing estates, and more details on this will be published in due course.
