GAA NOTES

INTERMEDIATE HURLING: Our Intermediate Hurlers recorded their second successsive win in this years Eastern Intermediate championship with a deserved 2 points win over a determined Eirns Own side at Walsh Park this afternoon on a scoreline of 2-11 to 2-9. Playing against the breeze in the first half, Eirns own were on top early in the game and quickly opened the scoring with a pointed free. Sam Lawless quickly replied for Ferrybank with a well taken score. 3 scores on the trot put Eirns Own a goal clear but Cormac O' Driscoll reduced the gap to keep the Villagers in the hunt. Eirns own hit some bad wides during the first half, but credit to Ferrybank as they took their scores where it mattered through Seamus Burchill and Cormac O' Driscoll, and at half time Eirns Own had a 2pt lead -7 pts to -5 pts. With the winds at their backs, Ferrybank made a great second half start when Sub Cormac Heffernan blasted the ball to the Eirns Own net, following a super run and pass from Phil Blake. Points from Eoin O' Neill and Cormac O' Driscoll put Ferrybank 3pt clear, but Eirns Own responed with a goal of their own to level it up after 40 minutes. Another Cormac O' Driscoll point put the Villagers ahead, and three minutes later a second Ferrybank goal arrived through Seamus Burchill, when Cormac Heffernan rasping shot was saved by the goalie and Seamus was on hand to finish it of. Seamus was unlucky not to have another goal, where the ref deemed he was in the square to finish of another good move which Cormac Heffernan was involved.Cormac O' Driscoll 's point put five between them. Points were exchangedthen on, with Phil Blake slotting over from a tight angle, before a second Eirns Own goal with two minutes remaining narrowed the gap to two points. Ferrybank held on well in those closing minutes as the referee blew the full time whistle. Overall this was another good win by the team, they played the ball well with, and against the wind which proved crucial in the end. Thanks to all who came along and supported the team.
