SENIOR HURLING:
No joy for the Senior hurlers last Sunday evening in Fraher Field as they were defeated by Fourmilewater on a scoreline of 1-27 to 1-13. It was tough going for the team, particularly in the last 10 minutes of the opening half, only trailing by three points, they were outscored by 1-10 to 0-1, as the men from the west assumed control.
With Fourmilewater getting the opening two scores, Caolán Mac Cathmhaoil replied with a score from halfway. Another three points from Fourmilewater extended the gap. Mark O’ Brien got another score on the board for Ferrybank as they slowly began to get to grips with the game. Two successive points from Ruaidhri McGarrity and Conor Haley reduced the gap to three points.
However, a swift attack from Fourmilewater resulted in a goal for them, and that sprung them into action as they hit ten of the next eleven points, with Mark O’ Brien getting a point for Ferrybank, resulting in a 1-17 to 0-05 lead at the break.
Early points from Robbie Carew (2) and Mark O’ Brien got the lads off to a decent start, but Fourmilewater always kept daylight between them by picking off scores with ease. The team kept battling away and got rewarded with a goal when a high ball was caught by Ruaidhri McGarrity, and a quick shot on the turn saw the ball go into the net.
Another tough night for the team, who must go again next Sunday, August 10th when they play Passage at 2pm in Walsh Park in their final round-robin game, before the preliminaries commence.
Thanks to all who came along and supported the team.
MINOR HURLING:
The combined Ferrybank / St. Saviours team played out an exciting draw away to Brickey Rangers last Wednesday. It was the team’s second successive draw, and keeps their faint hopes alive in reaching the top four.
A must-win game is the order now for the team next Wednesday, August 6th with a trip to Poleberry to play Erin’s Own at 7:30pm, where all support is welcomed.
DÉISE DRAW:
We had no luck in the second Déise Draw which took place last Friday. Once again, thanks to everyone who purchased tickets, and the next draw is scheduled for Friday, September 5th.
