ABP sponsored Ferrybank GAA Weekly Notes

INTERMEDIATE HURLING:

Our Intermediate Hurlers made the trip to play Modeligo last Saturday in the All-County hurling league. Following a good game of hurling, both sides shared the spoils. Despite missing a number of players, we trailed by five points at the break, 2-08 to 0-9. However, a good second-half with points from Robbie Carew, Mark O’ Brien and Sam Lawless ensured the side came away with a point; 2-15 to 0-21 the final score.

INTERMEDIATE CAMOGIE:

The Intermediate Camogie team made a good start to this year’s County League with victory over a spirited Tallow side last Friday night, winning 5-07 to 1-04.

Despite the scoreline, credit to Tallow as they kept battling away, and had a few chances of their own, but some solid defending from Ferrybank repelled the visitors from putting scores on the board.

An early Niamh Ahearne goal got Ferrybank off to a good start. However, Tallow quickly replied with a goal of their own. Points from Niamh Ahearne, Roisín Oates and Valerie O’ Brien extended the lead, but two unanswered Tallow points reduced the gap. However, just before the break, two quick goals from Valerie O’ Brien and Niamh Ahearne put daylight between the sides, as Ferrybank led by 3-03 to 1-03 at the break.

Another quick start from the girls at the start of the second-half which saw Roisín Oates scoring goal number four. A point from Niamh Ahearne put the homeside in command, and despite a heavy downpour in the second half, credit to Tallow as they kept battling away, but Ferrybank’s defence held firm. Some good passages of play saw Niamh Ahearne complete her hat trick with goal number five overall, and end with a personal tally of 3-05 on the night.

A good start for the team, and it’s onto next Saturday, April 29th, with a trip to play Ballyduff Upper at 6:30pm, where all support will be welcomed. Also, thanks to the Village Bar Ferrybank for sponsoring the team with a new set of jerseys for the coming season.

TEAM 100:

With sporting activities resuming the club grounds, many people will have seen the progression of the new clubhouse development. This is the biggest capital development project in the history of Ferrybank GAA club. With the recent upsurge in the underage section, this development will benefit these juvenile members and indeed the wider community far into the future.

This project will deliver a new building, consisting of modern dressing rooms, and a community orientated multipurpose rooms for all.

Team 100 has delivered numerous projects for Ferrybank GAA club in the past, including our hurling alley, running track, ball stoppers, pitch drainage, car park tarmacking, and the initial enabling works for this new project. We would ask everyone associated with the club; parents, supporters and players to join Team 100, and contribute to the continued development of the club and community.

Joining Team 100 involves paying a €25 per month standing-order (€6.25 per week) to the club, which covers your full-membership for the year. This works out as the price of a few cups of coffee/tea a week.

Please talk to any member, mentor, trainer or e-mail ferrybankgaa@gmail.com for an application form to join Team 100.

DÉISE DRAW:

The 2023 Déise Draw will commence on Monday, May 22nd. Similar to last year, there will be six draws, with over twenty cash prizes up for grabs each night. The draw will remain at €90 (€15 per month), with the participating club retaining 70% of the funds they generate from sales.

This is the club’s biggest source of income each year, and we would ask everyone associated with the club to purchase a Déise Draw ticket.
