CAMOGIE:
Congratulations to Iona Heffernan and the Waterford Senior Camogie team that were crowned the Very Ireland Division 1B National League Champions with a superb victory over near-neighbours Wexford in Semple Stadium last Sunday afternoon.
The girls went through the league campaign undefeated, and no doubt were deserving of their success, and will now play in the top tier for next season. Let’s hope it’s the first of many medals and trophies for the team, as they now turn their attention to the Championship season.
INTERMEDIATE HURLING:
The Intermediate hurlers made the trip to An Rinn last Saturday afternoon in the All-County Hurling League, and recorded a fine 3-21 to 1-12 win.
Against the breeze in the opening half, Ferrybank made a bright start with points from Mark O’ Brien, Neil O’ Sullivan, Shane O’ Sullivan and Robbie Carew. Soon after, a good team move saw Neil O’ Sullivan plant the sliothar to the net. An Rinn came a lot more into the game in the final ten minutes of the half, and by the half-time break they had reduced the gap to 1-09 to 0-10.
An Rinn made the better start to the second half, and drew level with a goal of their own. However, the lads got a grip on the game, and replied with points from Shane Oates, Ruadhri McGarrity, Cormac Heffernan and Robbie Carew, which extended the lead. Two quick goals followed in as many minutes via Mark O’ Brien and Robbie Carew settled the game.
A good workout for the team, in which was their first competitive game of the year, which showed some good usage of the ball and yielded decent scores during the game. Scorers on the day – Mark O’ Brien (1-08), Robbie Carew (1-04), Neil O’ Sullivan (1-04), Shane O’ Sullivan (0-01), Ruadhri McGarrity (0-01), Shane O’ Sullivan (0-01), Cormac Heffernan (0-01), Sam Lawless (0-01).
Next up is another trip to play Modeligo on Saturday, April 15th at 4pm.
TEAM 100:
With sporting activities resuming the club grounds, many people will have seen the progression of the new clubhouse development. This is the biggest capital development project in the history of Ferrybank GAA club. With the recent upsurge in the underage section, this development will benefit these juvenile members and indeed the wider community far into the future.
This project will deliver a new building, consisting of modern dressing rooms, and a community orientated multipurpose rooms for all.
Team 100 has delivered numerous projects for Ferrybank GAA club in the past, including our hurling alley, running track, ball stoppers, pitch drainage, car park tarmacking, and the initial enabling works for this new project. We would ask everyone associated with the club; parents, supporters and players to join Team 100, and contribute to the continued development of the club and community.
Joining Team 100 involves paying a €25 per month standing-order (€6.25 per week) to the club, which covers your full-membership for the year. This works out as the price of a few cups of coffee/tea a week.
Please talk to any member, mentor, trainer or e-mail ferrybankgaa@gmail.com for an application form to join Team 100.

Last Saturday morning saw the Ferrybank Camogie club hold their open day. A huge turnout, with both familiar and new faces coming along, on what was a fine sunny morning. The U5 and U6s got the morning’s proceedings underway, which was followed by the U7 to U12 category.
Plenty of skills were on display throughout the morning, which certainly impressed everyone. A huge thanks to the Order of Malta ambulance crew for coming down and thankfully no injuries were reported on the day.
The Camogie girls were treated to a selection of sweets, cakes and goody bags following their training. A huge thanks to everyone who contributed to this event, from the trainers, coaches, mentors, and the parents to ensure a great day was had by all.
