ABP sponsored Ferrybank GAA Weekly Notes

UNDER 15 HURLING:

The combined Ferrybank/St. Saviours team were defeated in the Division 2 semi-finallast Friday by Clonea on a scoreline of 1-09 to 0-06 in Carraiganore.

A lot of wides in the opening half by the combined side proved the difference, whereas Clonea kept the scoreboard ticking over at crucial stages of a tight game. It took almost ten minutes before the opening score was registered with a placed ball giving Clonea the lead. However, a couple of minutes later, Conor Haley replied with a free. With space at a premium on the field, Clonea took advantage of some poor wides by Ferrybank/St. Saviours by hitting four unanswered points to open up a lead. A badly needed point from Jacob reduced the gap to three points, but the Clonea forward line were making a bit more space available for them, and two more points extended  the lead to 0-7 to 0-2 at the break.

Despite conceding the opening score of the second-half, the combined side hit a bit of a purple patch, with points from Conor (2), Fionn McGarrity and Josh to get it back to two points. With Sean, Josh and John in defence playing solid, it looked like the team would drive on from there. Clonea, weathered the storm, and tightened up in defence, as the Ferrybank/St. Saviours forward line found it very difficult to break through, and rarely troubled the Clonea goalie. With the game going into injury time, and the team searching for a goal, Clonea broke up the attack, and swept up field and scored the goal that took them into the final, despite the best efforts of Tommy in goal.

Hard luck to the team on the night, as they have given an excellent account of themselves in the competition, and just fell short in the end. TEAM: Tommy, Adam, Sean, Alex, Lee, Josh (0-01), John Irish, Fionn (0-01), John Griffin, Conor (0-03) Harry, Sam, Jacob (0-01), Nathan, Daniel, Max.
