INTERMEDIATE HURLING:
Our Intermediate hurlers are in the quarter-final of the Gerry Kennedy Crash Repairs Eastern Championship action this coming Saturday, August 20th, when they will play Erin’s Own at 6pm in Walsh Park. Its knockout from here, so no doubt, this will be a stiff test for the team, and all support will be appreciated.
JUNIOR HURLING:
Unfortunately, our Junior Hurlers received a walkover into this year’s semi-finals of the Junior C Hurling championship, and more than likely it will be in a fortnight’s time.
MINOR HURLING:
It was a busy couple of days for the Minor Hurlers with two matches in three days, and more importantly recording excellent victories in the process, thus maintaining their unbeaten record in this year’s competition.
Last Monday saw St. Mary’s come to the GAA grounds, and following an excellent game, which saw Ferrybank trail by five points midway through the second-half, a strong finish led to a 2-18 to 2-13 win. Both sides exchanged early points with Conor Daly and Shane Purcell on target for the home side. Moments later, Shane Purcell struck the opening goal from close range. St. Mary’s kept in touch in the opening half, but points from Jay Bagge (2), Conor (2) and Calum (his first championship score), kept Ferrybank ahead. Just entering the closing minutes of the opening half, St. Mary’s hit a purple patch yielding 1-03 without reply, and lead 1-11 to 1-08 at the break.
Points from Caolan MacCathmhaoil and Conor reduced the gap, but St. Mary’s replied instantly with a goal to open up a five point lead. That goal seemed to shake Ferrybank up, and the lads got right back into it with a fine solo run goal from Jay Bagge. From there on, points from Conor, Jay, Shane and Jacob saw Ferrybank close out a good win. Scorers against St. Mary’s: Conor (0-08), Jay (1-03), Shane (1-02), Caolan (0-02), Callum (0-01), Jacob (0-01), Conor D (0-01).
Last Wednesday saw Erin’s Own next up for Ferrybank. An early point from Finn McGarrity got the scoreboard going, but then came a goal blitz in the opening ten minutes, with Conor getting the opening goal, receiving a pass from Shane. Moments later, a long ball from Caolan MacCathmhaoil was batted out by the goalie, and Conor was quickest to react to put the ball to the net. Goal number three arrived through Shane Purcell from an Izaak Richard’s pass. Jay got in on the goal spree with number four. Erin’s Own never gave up, and replied with a goal of their own to give them hope. Conor got his third and number five from a low drive, and number six arrived before the break, when a long Caolan free sailed over the goalkeeper’s head and into the net.
The second-half tempo cooled down a lot, as both sides found it hard to register scores, and any chance of an Erin’s Own fightback were soon over as further goals from Finn and Conor sealed the win. Erin’s Own kept fighting to the end, and Kyle Daly in goal had to be alert as he pulled off a couple of excellent saves to ensure a good solid win for the team on a scoreline of 8-10 to 2-16.
Next up for the team is a trip to An Rinn to play An Ghaeltacht at 7:15pm. It’s the team’s final game in the group stage. Scorers against Erin’s Own: Conor (4-05), Izaak (0-04), Finn (1-01), Shane, Jay, Caolan (1-00) each.

Best of luck to the team, and all support will be welcomed.
UNDER 11 HURLING:
Another good win for the U11 hurlers over a good St. Oliver’s side last Tuesday. The team is making good progress as the season goes on, and this win will give them confidence. Their next game is away to Na Gaeil (Dunhill/Fenor) on Friday, August 19th at 6:30pm.
