INTERMEDIATE HURLING:
Our Intermediate hurlers recorded another good win in their latest Gerry Kennedy Crash Repairs Eastern Championship game against De La Salle at Walsh Park on Sunday – final score of 4-22 to 1-15.
The team got off to a good start with a brace of points from MJ Sutton, followed by a fine point from Ruadhri McGarrity (his first championship score). Soon after, the opening goal arrived for Ferrybank when Cormac Heffernan picked up a loose ball, skipped a few tackles, and drilled a low shot to the net. Further points from Sam Lawless, Robbie Carew and Mark O’ Brien put Ferrybank in control. However, De La Salle struck for a goal to reduce the gap. Nonetheless, almost immediately, Ferrybank got a second goal, when good play from Sam Lawless saw Neil O’ Sullivan’s shot blocked, but Robbie Carew was on hand to put the ball into the net from close range. The lads played some good hurling in the opening half, and further points from Robbie Carew, Ruadhri McGarrity, Mark O’ Brien, Cormac Heffernan and Sam Lawless saw the team go into a 2-13 to 1-09 lead at the break. All of the scores in the opening half from Ferrybank came from play.
Within a minute of the second-half, a great run from Mark O’ Brien, whose pass to Neil O’ Sullivan at speed was drilled into the corner of the net for a well taken goal. De La Salle kept plugging away, without troubling the Ferrybank defence, with points, and goal number four for Ferrybank arrived when another fine run from Neil O’ Sullivan saw his pass land nicely into Ryan Tierney who dispatched the sliothar to the net. Robbie Carew almost got goal number five, only to see his shot excellently saved by the De La Salle goalkeeper. Further points from Mark O’ Brien (4), Ryan Tierney, and Neil O’ Sullivan saw the side seal a good win. The team now go into the quarter-finals in a fortnight’s time, where their opponents will be confirmed after next week’s play-off games. Thanks to all who came along and supported the side.

JUNIOR HURLING:
Our Junior Hurlers received a walkover from Ballyduff Lower in their latest match in the John J Murphy sponsored competition that was scheduled to take place last Thursday. The team have now finished their matches and have topped the group, and it’s now onto the knockout stages with their quarter-final opponents yet to be confirmed. More than likely, the quarter-finals will be in two weeks’ time.
MINOR HURLING:
The Minor hurlers maintained their unbeaten run in this year’s championship with a good win over a spirited Ballyduff Upper last Wednesday. A solid opening half from the team secured this win. Izaak Richards got the opening goal in the first minute of the game, shooting low and hard into the corner. Further points from Jay Bagge (3) and Izaak Richards extended the early lead. Ballyduff Upper posed a threat going forward, but solid defending from Sean Adeyeni, Paddy Mackey and Caolan MacCathmhaoil kept them at bay. Ferrybank began to take control of the opening half, and a second goal arrived following good inter play between Jay Bagge and Conor Haley saw Finn McGarrity run through the Ballyduff defence and slot the ball to the net. Just before half-time, Shane Purcell got his reward after a few near misses, when he pulled on a loose ball to the net to leave the team 3-08 to 0-03 ahead. Any chance of a Ballyduff Upper comeback was finished when Conor Haley got goal number four from the penalty spot after Shane Purcell was bundled to the ground. Shane Purcell hit number five from close range. Credit to Ballyduff Upper, as they kept plugging away, and got rewarded with some late goals. Excellent points from the outstanding Jay Bagge ensured a good win for the team on a scoreline of 5-14 to 4-08.
Scorers: Jay Bagge (0-07), Izaak Richards (1-05), Conor Haley (1-01), Shane Purcell (2-00), Finn McGarrity (1-00), Lochlann Flanagan (0-01).
It’s going to be a busy couple of days for the team with two home matches in three days. First up is this Monday, August 8th against St Marys at 7:30pm, while on Wednesday, August 10th it’s Erin’s Own providing the opposition, also at 7:30pm.
UNDER 15 HURLING:
Ferrybank/St Saviours combined side suffered a narrow one-point defeat to Abbeyside last Monday on a scoreline of 2-09 to 2-08. Played in damp, misty conditions, both sides found it tough going, and a number of passes were going astray. Abbeyside performed better in the opening-half, capitalising on a couple of mistakes in the Ferrybank/St. Savious defence and scored two goals from it, which saw them lead 2-05 to 0-03 at the break with Conor Haley scoring the three points for the team.
A much-improved second-half display from the team that saw a goal from a free by Conor Haley get the team right back into it. With the team getting on top led by Sean, Josh, Lee and Conor, a second goal arrived from Conor to narrow the gap, but chances went a begging as the game went on, and Abbeyside got a bit of breathing space with two pointed frees as the game entered its closing minutes. Scores from Finn and Conor reduced the gap to the minimum, but time ran out for the team as they searched for the equalising score.

UNDER 8/10 HURLING/CAMOGIE:
It was a busy weekend for the boys and girls. Last Saturday morning saw the Under 8 Boys make the short trip to Slieverue to play in a blitz against the hosts, Glenmore and Blacks & Whites. Another fine performance from the players, who put in great displays in all three games. Thanks to Slieverue for hosting the blitz.
Our Under 8 Camogie side made the trip to Modeligo last Saturday morning to compete against the hosts, Lismore and St. Anne’s. It was a fine morning for the blitz, with some great matches taking place. The girls were more than a match for their opponents, with Anna in goal being solid, while top class defending throughout by Sophie, Poppy and Olivia ensured very little scores were conceded. In midfield, Zoey and Amy supplied the ball for the forward line of Saoirse, Lauren, Ella, Evie and Sadhbh to cause havoc up front which saw plenty of goals being scored. Well done all, and thanks to Modeligo for being excellent hosts.
Last Sunday morning saw the Under 10 hurlers travel to play Ballygunner and came away with a great win. The boys put in a great display, and were full value for the win. Well done to all concerned.
COUNTY DUTY:
It was a busy weekend for the Haley and McGarrity families, with both a son and daughter from each family representing the Waterford County team. Well done to Conor Haley and Finn McGarrity on representing the Waterford U15 hurling team, while Ciara Haley and Cliodhna McGarrity were representing the Waterford U14 Camogie side in Dublin.
