ABP sponsored Ferrybank GAA Weekly Notes

INTERMEDIATE HURLING:

The Intermediates Hurlers begin their Championship campaign this coming Friday, August 20th at 6:45pm, where they take on St. Molleran’s in Kill in the Gerry Kennedy Crash Repairs sponsored competition.

With just two matches to play in the group (with Dunhill being the other team in the group), the winners go directly into the quarter-finals as a seeded team, while second and third go into the-play offs. A winning start will be crucial to the team, and gives them plenty of confidence going forward. All support will be appreciated on the night, and best of luck to John, Jamie, Marty, Nicky, Shane and the panel.

JUNIOR HURLERS:

This coming Thursday, August 19th will see the Junior Hurlers begin their Championship, away to Butlerstown at 6:45pm, in the John J Murphy sponsored competition.

Having been defeated in last year’s Eastern final, the lads will hope to make amends. Again, all supported will be welcomed. Best of luck to Pat, Stan and the panel.

MINOR HURLING:

Ferrybank/St. Saviour’s combined side begin their Minor Hurling Championship this coming Wednesday, August 18th away to St. Molleran’s in Carrickbeg at 6:45pm.

With eight teams in the group, the top four will make the semi-final places, so a stiff test awaits the side. Up to now, the team have prepared well and had some very useful challenge games. So your support will be appreciated on the night.

UNDER 13 FOOTBALL:

An understrength football team were well defeated by St. Mary’s last Friday in their opening game. Hopefully the lads will be at full strength tonight (August 16th) away to Portlaw at 7pm.

UNDER 12 FOOTBALL:

Our U12 Footballers are away to St. Saviour’s this Friday at 6:30pm.

UNDER 6 & UNDER 7 HURLING:

It was a busy week for both the Under 6 & Under 7 hurlers, with a trip to play in the Ballygunner blitz last Monday. The team competed in all of their games, and enjoyed the occasion.

Last Saturday morning, Ferrybank welcomed Slieverue, and it was a great turnout. With the weather holding up, the players put on a super performance for all to see, and competitive matches took place. Thanks to Kevin for organising these games, ensuring all of them passed off smoothly, and also to the coaches/mentors for all their time they are putting in, and it’s now starting to pay dividends.

DÉISE DRAW:

The second Déise Draw will take place on Wednesday August 25th. Thanks to all who have purchased tickets for the draw, and it’s still not too late to get involved and purchase a ticket, with 23 cash prizes up for grabs, ranging from a 1st prize of €10k all the way down to €100. There are five draws remaining and each ticket cost €15. The club monthly draw winner was Noreen O' Meara.

COUNTY DUTY:

Ferrybank GAA club would like to wish Iona Heffernan, John Burns (Coach) and the Waterford Senior Camogie team the very best of luck this coming Saturday, August 21st, when they take on Tipperary in the quarter-final of the All-Ireland Senior Camogie Championship in Páirc Uí Chaoimh at 6:45pm.

The Camogie association are hoping for a bigger audience to attend the game, so plenty of tickets should become available to purchase. A huge effort has gone into preparing the team since the start of the year, and no doubt a big test awaits them. All support will be welcomed and appreciated, so please, purchase your tickets, and go down and show your support to the girls on the night. Best of luck to everyone involved in the team.
