ABP sponsored Ferrybank GAA Weekly Notes

UNDER 13 HURLING:

All roads leads to Fraher field this coming Monday, August 2nd, where our U13 hurlers contest the final of the Division 4 ‘Déise in Dublin’ sponsored competition against An Ghaeltacht with a 7:30pm start.

Last Monday, the team qualified for the final with a last gasp finish to defeat a gallant Ardmore side in Carrickbeg on a scoreline of 2-07 to 3-01. With heavy rain beating falling, Ferrybank got down to business straight away, and began to take control with points from Mark Flanagan, Luke O' Connor and Max O' Sullivan. Moments later, Evan Mullally scored a fine goal to extend the lead. Ardmore, however, replied with a point. Nonetheless, points from Evan Mullally and Mark Flanagan kept the Villagers ahead. Just before the half-time break, Ardmore scored a goal to reduce the gap to 1-06 to 1-01 at the break.

With conditions playing their part, Ardmore increased the pressure on the Ferrybank defence, and replied with a goal to narrow the gap to two points. Ferrybank’s forwards were finding it hard to get the scores they got in the opening half, and a third goal for Ardmore put them into the lead by the minimum.

With their backs to the wall, and time not on their side, the lads dug deep. Jack Walsh grabbed the ball, went on a great solo run, and played the ball into the Ardmore defence, where Evan Mullally was first to react, and planted the sliothar to the net to regain the lead. A third point from Mark Flanagan insured the win, as the final whistle sounded.

A huge credit to the team, who never gave up, kept battling away, and got their reward at the end, and now go on to the final.

TEAM: Tommy Lea, Conor Morrissey, Adam Cusack, Jacob Richards, Rian Byrne, Jack Hoban, Max O' Sullivan, Jack Walsh, Luke O' Connor, Evan Mullally, Daniel Brennan, Sam Hurley, Harry Sutton, Mark Flanagan, Rory Simpson.

We hope to see as many supporters on the night to cheer on the team. Both sides met in the league stages about three weeks ago, where it ended in a draw, so another close game is on the cards. The very best of luck to John, Cormac, Aine, and the players.

UNDER 12 HURLING:

Our U12 hurlers were defeated by Clonea last Tuesday in Ferrybank. With most of the team involved with the U13 the previous night, credit to the players as they kept battling away to the end.

UNDER 15 FOOTBALL:

Our Under 15 Footballers begin their Championship campaign this coming Sunday, August 8th, with a home game against Dungarvan at 12 pm.

DÉISE DRAW:

We had no luck in the opening Déise Draw which took place last Tuesday night. A huge thanks to all who had purchased tickets for the draw. The next Déise Draw take place on August 25th.

COUNTY DUTY:

Congratulations to Mark O' Brien and the Waterford Senior hurling team on their fantastic win over Tipperary last Saturday afternoon, and best of luck to them this coming Saturday against Limerick in the All-Ireland semi-final in Croke Park.

Hard luck to Iona Heffernan, Doxer Burns and the Waterford Senior Camogie team that were defeated by Cork in the All-Ireland Series, however, all is not lost, as they now play Tipperary in the quarter-finals in Páirc Uí Chaoimh on Saturday August 21st. Also, hard luck to Shiner, Niamh Ahearne and Valerie O’Brien who were part of the Waterford Junior Camogie team that were narrowly defeated by Wexford in Walsh Park last Saturday afternoon, and lastly to Helen Connolly who was part of the Waterford Minor Camogie team that were defeated by Kilkenny at the WIT Arena last Sunday afternoon.

KING COFFEE:

Everyone at the club would like to wish Tommy Lane and Mark O' Brien the very best of luck on their new business venture ‘King Coffee’, which opened their doors last Friday morning. Serving a fine selection of coffees, smoothies and treats (where Carew's Cake was a popular seller), King Coffee is based at our club grounds, and are opened on Friday morning from 8am to 1pm, Saturday 9am to 2pm and Sunday 10am to 2pm. So, why not drop down and sample the fine selection of food and beverages on offer.
