Our U13 Hurlers made the long trip to Cappoquin last Monday evening (June 7th) in their opening game of this year’s championship, and ensured the journey was worthwhile with a fine 3-08 to 1-07 win over the homeside.
This was a tough game throughout, with Ferrybank having to dig deep, as Cappoquin made life difficult for them. Crucial scores from Rian, Jack and Evan ensured a well-deserved win on the night, with everyone chipping in for the team. Thanks to all the parents who provided lifts down for the players.
The team also enjoyed a win over Killrossanty, winning on a score line of 5-08 to 3-06.
TEAM: Sam, Conor, Luke, Rory, Rian, Jack W, Evan, Mark C, Max, Mark F, Jack H, Jacob, Finn, Nawras, Harry, Jamie, Naser, Arjun, Adam.
UNDER 15 HURLING:
Our U15 hurlers recorded a good victory over a spirited Clonea side last Wednesday night in their opening game of this year’s championship on a scoreline of 6-08 to 1-09.
A five goal haul from Conor Haley was the crucial difference in this game. Both sides exchanged points with Lochlann Flanagan pointing both for Ferrybank, but midway through the opening half, Ferrybank struck for three goals in five minutes with Conor Haley being in the right place at the right time, and this gave the team a healthy lead.
Another point from Lochlann ensured at 3-03 to 0-02 at the break. However, Clonea came out fighting in the second-half and hit over six unanswered points to reduce the gap to four and it looked like a comeback was on. However, just before the water break, a long range free from Adam Aspel wasn’t cleared by the Clonea defence, and Conor was on hand to score goal number four and extended the lead. This woke up the team, and from there on took control of the game with points from Jay Bagge and Adam Aspel extending the lead. As the game went on, further goals from Conor and Adam completed the Ferrybank scoring, while right on full-time, Clonea scored a consolation goal, as the homeside ran out worthy winners.
TEAM: Kyle Daly, Sean Akeyami, Paddy Mackey, Jacob Richards, Finn McGarrity, Adam Aspel, Harry Flanagan, Caolan MacCathmhaoil, Lochlann Flanagan, Sean Byrne, Jay Bagge, Ryan Hughes, Conor Haley, Dean Clarke, Malachy Carter, Conor Daly, Finn Carter, Mark Flanagan, Jack Hoban, Max O' Sullivan. Next up is St Oliver’s on Wednesday, June 16th at 7pm in Ferrybank.
UNDER 12 HURLING:
The U12 hurlers welcomed Clan Na Gael last Saturday afternoon, and following a good game of hurling, the team prevailed on a scoreline of 6-04 to 1-07. On a hot and sunny evening, both sides traded good scores. Crucially however, goals from Finn, Sam and Harry always had Ferrybank ahead, despite the best efforts of Clan Na Gael, as they kept fighting all the way to the end, and only for Tommy in goal pulling off some excellent saves and putting in a man of the match performance, Clan Na Gael could easily have gone home with a point or two.
Well done lads, next game for the U12s is on Saturday June 26th home to De La Salle at 4:30pm. TEAM: Tommy, Conor, Adam, Finn, Mark, Luke, Sam, Rian, Harry, Arjun, Nawras, Rishan, Daniel, Alex.
