INTERMEDIATE HURLING:
Our Intermediate Hurlers were defeated by Ballyduff Lower in the quarter-final of the Gerry Kennedy Crash Repairs sponsored competition last Saturday night in Fenor on a scoreline of 1-27 to 0-24.
Despite, at one stage trailing by nine points, the lads got it back to one, but it wasn’t to be, as Ballyduff Lower weathered the storm to run out worthy winners. The opening exchanges were pretty even with points from Mark O'Brien (3) and Robbie Carew levelling the game up at four points each. However, Ballyduff Lower hit a purple patch, scoring the only goal after 10 minutes, when the Ferrybank defence failed to clear and Ballyduff Lower got in for a goal.
Four points followed, and Ballyduff Lower were causing problems with the Ferrybank defence working overtime. Ryan Tierney replied with a good point, and further points from Cormac O’Driscoll and Mark O’ Brien eased the pressure. Ballyduff Lower came back with a further three unanswered scores to open up a nine-point lead. However, just coming up to the end of the opening half, three points from Luke Flynn (2) and Mark O’Brien reduced the gap to six at the break.
Ferrybank came out all guns blazing at the start of the second-half, and points from Robbie Carew, Graham Coady and Mark O’Brien (3) reduced the gap to one. No doubt this had Ballyduff Lower rattled, but they replied with two points. With the game there for the taking, points from Ryan Tierney and Mark O’Brien (2), had only three points in it at the water break, which seemed to take the sting out of Ferrybank’s challenge.
Ballyduff Lower scored two quick points to extend their lead. With a goal now needed, Ferrybank threw everything at the Ballyduff Lower defence, but they held firm. Further points from MJ Sutton and Mark O’Brien (2), left a goal in it with time almost up. However, three late points from Ballyduff Lower sealed the win.
The lads gave it everything, but on the day, Ballyduff Lower deserved the win, and move onto the semi-finals. Thanks to Decky Wall, John Buggy, Nicky Ryan, Marty Freeman, Dominick O’Brien, Tony Power, Maxi McCabe, Eoin O’ Neill and Declan Howard for all their help in preparing the team, and let’s hope they are all back next year.

JUNIOR HURLING:
Our Junior hurlers qualified for the semi-final of the championship with a 2-14 to 1-11 win over Ballyduff Lower last Thursday night in Ferrybank.
A good second-half display sealed the win, despite being reduced to fourteen men early in the second-half, with the side two points down.
Four early points from Eoin O'Neill got the team off to a good start. However, Ballyduff Lower replied with a goal and a point to level it up. From there on, it was very even, with points being traded, with Darryl Griffin and Greg Murphy contributing to the scoreboard. Just before half-time, two quick Ballyduff Lower points ensured they lead 1-07 to 0-08 at the break.
Despite losing a man early in the second-half, Ferrybank got a goal when Darryl Griffins shot was saved by the goalie, and Paul Martin followed up from close range to score. From there, four more points from Sparky extended the lead, and Ferrybank began to take control. A second goal arrived with Greg Murphy scoring. Even though Ballyduff Lower rallied, Cian Martin, in goal, pulled off a vital save to keep the lead. With the defence of Nicky Ryan, Jake Brophy, Oran MacCathmhaoil, Noaise MacCathmhaoil, Charlie Atkins and Aidan Sinnott holding firm, the lads ran out worthy winners and now go on and play Portlaw in the semi-finals.
