ABP sponsored Ferrybank GAA Weekly Notes

INTERMEDIATE HURLING:
The Intermediate hurlers were narrowly defeated by Ballygunner in the quarter-finals of the Gerry Kennedy Crash Repairs Championship last Sunday in St. Saviours on a score-line of 0-21 to 1-17. This was tough on the team, who made a slow start, but came more into the game; however, time ran out on them on the day.
Ballygunner made the better start, and were quickly two points up, before Cormac O' Driscoll replied with a point. Ballygunner’s movement and passing was causing Ferrybank’s defence a few problems, and Jono Brown in the goal pulled off a fine save from close range in a one on one situation. Three further points from Cormac kept Ferrybank in the game. Again, Jono in the goal pulled off another fine save from close range to deny Ballygunner a certain goal. Slowly Ferrybank came into the game, and quick points from Neil O’ Sullivan, MJ Sutton and Cormac Heffernan got Ferrybank back to three points. Howver, two unanswered points from Ballygunner in injury time had them 0-14 to 0-9 ahead at the break.
Three unanswered points from Mark O’ Brien and Cormac O’ Driscoll had Ferrybank right back in the game early in the second-half, and with Ferrybank beginning to enjoy more possession, quickly drew level when Sam Lawless flicked the ball to the net. With the game there for the taking, John Ahern had his shot blocked by the Ballygunner defence, and crucially, Ferrybank had a couple of bad wides, which could have swung the game in their favour. Whereas Ballygunner kept taking the chances they got, and once again, Jono had to pull off another good save. Points from Sam, Mark and Cormac O’ Driscoll had the teams level going into injury time. However, Ballygunner got a late free to edge them ahead, and despite the efforts of the lads, Ballygunner defence held out for the win.
This was a tough defeat for the lads, who fought hard, and on another day, with a bit of luck, might had come away with the win. Thanks to Pat, Decky and Doxer who left no stone unturned in preparing the team all year, to the backroom team for their help and assistance. Also, thanks to all the supporters who came out on the day as well.

UNDER 15 HURLING:
Our Under 15 hurlers will play the winners of the Ballyduff Upper/St Saviours match, in the semi-final of the County Bord na nÓg on Thursday September 12th at a venue that has yet to be decided.

UNDER 13 HURLING:
It was another tough night at the office for the U13 hurlers last Monday night, as they were defeated by a superior Balllygunner side. The lads worked hard in the opening quarter, with Conor Daly scoring some fine points to keep his side in the hunt. However, Ballygunner began to fine the gaps, and built up a 3-07 to 0-03 half time lead. Despite the scoreline, the team hurled away, and were rewarded when Adam Aspel scored a goal from close range in the second-half, and kept fighting to the end. No doubt the lads will have learned a lot from this game, and now must turn their attention to the quarter-final match against Ballyduff Upper which is scheduled to take place on Monday September 16th.

CAMOGIE:
No joy for the Ferrybank Camogie team last Saturday night as they were defeated by Tramore. Short a number of key players going into the game, the girls battled hard all the way to the end. With games coming up against Butlerstown and Gaultier B, let’s hope the team can bounce back to winning ways.

U10 FOOTBALL:
Hard luck to the U10 footballers who were defeated by Butlerstown last week.

DÉISE DRAW:
We had no winner in the Déise Draw for August which took place last Wednesday night in De La Salle. Again, many thanks to all who purchased tickets on the night. The final draw of the year will take place on Wednesday September 25th in Shalloes, Colligan.
