ABP sponsored Ferrybank GAA Weekly Notes

COUNTY DUTY:
Huge congratulations to Helen Connolly and the Waterford Under 16B Camogie team that were crowned All-Ireland champions in Nenagh on Sunday afternoon, defeating Limerick on a score-line of 4-11 to 1-03. Let’s hope this is the first of many All-Ireland medals for Helen and this talented team.

UNDER 15 HURLING:
Our U15 hurlers made the trip to Ballyduff Upper on Sunday morning to play the home side, and after a titanic struggle, the lads came away with the points, winning on a score-line of 1-15 to 1-12.
Played on a warm day, Ferrybank took an early lead in the opening half, but the home-side, roared on by a big crowd, came more and more into the game, and took the lead by a point. However, credit to the team where its due; entering the final five minutes, Ferrybank put the pedal to the metal, and hit four unanswered points to run out three point winners.
It’s now six wins from six for the team, and they go directly into the semi-finals of the competition, which are scheduled to take place on Thursday September 12th. Well done to all concerned.

UNDER 13 HURLING:
Our U13 hurlers were defeated last Friday night to Mount Sion on a score-line of 3-10 to 1-06. Crucially, it was a game of small margins as Mount Sion hit the goals just before and after half-time to seal the win.
Despite being down by two points, Conor Daly settled the nerves with a point, and two further points from Conor had the game level. Caolan McCathmhaoil saw hit goal-bound shot saved by the Mount Sion goalkeeper in the opening half, but the lads kept battling with Sean Akewami in the full-back line, and Adam Aspel nda Michael MacLawrence in the half-back line holding the fort well. Just on the stroke of half-time, Mount Sion hit 1-01 to put them into a 1-05 to 0-3 lead.
The second-half was only a couple of minutes old, when Mount Sion hit the lads for 2-01, increasing the lead. However, the team kept fighting and were rewarded with Conor Haley finding the net from close range. Further points from Conor Daly kept Ferrybank going, and despite needing a goal to keep the game alive, Mount Sion's defence held firm, and tagged over another couple of points late on to seal the win.
A battling display from the team, who lost nothing in defeat, and no doubt, will take a lot from this game. The team have one final game in the league stages, and it’s against Ballygunner this coming Wednesday August 28th at 6:45pm in Ferrybank.
