INTERMEDIATE HURLNG:
The Intermediate hurlers recorded a hard fought win over Erins
Own in Gracedieu last Saturday night, winning on a score-line of 2-18 to 1-16.
A much improved second-half performance, paved the way for this win, in which
the team overcame a five-point deficit.
The opening exchanges were keenly fought, with both sides
getting their first five scores from placed balls, with Cormac O' Driscoll
scoring the points for Ferrybank. The excellent Sam Lawless put over the first
point from play midway through the opening half. However, Erins Own started to
gather momentum and scored seven of the next nine points to leave it 0-12 to 0-08,
with Luke Flynn and Neil O’ Sullivan registering our scores.
An early second-half Erins Own point extended the lead to
five, but slowly Ferrybank came more and more into the game, and points from
John Ahern, Mark O' Brien, Sam Lawless and Cormac O' Driscoll had the sides
level. With the Ferrybank full-back line playing well, the lads began to get on
top. Entering the final ten minutes, Sam Lawless’ fine overall effort was
rewarded when his shot from the '21 went to the net to open a three-point gap.
Quick points from Mark and Cormac pushed the lead out further, but Erins Own
got a lifeline when a '21 yard free went to the net to reduce the gap. With the
clock ticking down, Mark O' Brien ensured the win with the second goal, when he
evaded his marker, and planted the sliothar to the net to seal the victory.
This was a tough game, with Erins Own giving it their all,
but the lads fought hard, and put in a good second-half display, with the full
back line in particular holding firm, and keeping the Erins Own forwards at bay.
Overall, this was a deserved win for the team, in which the selectors will be
pleased with their effort.
Next up is a trip to Fenor next Saturday, July 19th
at 3:15pm, to play table toppers Dunhill, where all support will be welcomed.

JUNIOR HURLING:

19th with a trip to play Portlaw at 7:30pm. Let’s hope the team can
bounce back to winning ways, and all support will be appreciated on the night.
MINOR HURLING:
No joy for the Minor hurlers last Wednesday night in their
opening game in this year’s championship against Erins Own.
An early goal for the visitors got them going, but points
from Glen Power and John Collins kept the team in the hunt, and, for long
periods of the opening half, Ferrybank were right in the game. Just before half-time, Erins Own put over five unanswered points to extend the lead.
Two early goals in the second-half, ended the game as a
contest, but Ferrybank kept batting with points from Shane Oates and Jordan McEvoy
kept the scoreboard ticking over, and they were rewarded when Shane Oates low
shot went into the corner of the net for a fine goal.
Next up for the Minors is Wednesday July 24th, home to
Ballygunner ‘B at 7:30pm.
UNDER 15 HURLING:
Our U15 hurlers made it two wins from two with a fine win in
Leamybrien over Kilrossanty last Tuesday night, winning on a scoreline of 5-11
to 0-2.
From the outset, Ferrybank dominated proceedings, and
secured a healthy lead, with a combination of three quick goals, and a number
of fine points.
Kilrossanty showed a lot more urgency in the second-half,
but the lads stayed cool under pressure, playing a nice brand of hurling, and
got rewarded with some nice scores and came away with the points. It was nice
to see a fine panel of players to choose from, where everyone got a run out
during the game.
Next up for the team is this Monday July 15th with
a home game against Abbeyside ‘B at 7pm.
UNDER 13 HURLING:
Our U13 hurlers had an excellent win over Naomh Brid in their
second game in the Division One section last Thursday night, making the trip to
Modeligo, recording a 3-11 to 0-2 win.
A good solid display from this young side, and they took the
scores where it mattered. Next up is another long spin, next Monday night July
22nd at 7pm where they play Ballyduff Upper.
COUNTY DUTY:
It was a busy week for some of our underage players
representing the County, and well done to Iona Heffernan and the Waterford
Senior Camogie team that had a fine win over Clare last Saturday afternoon in
Walsh Park, thus ensuring a place in this year’s quarter-finals of the All
Ireland Senior Camogie Championship. They have one game left in the league
stages, away to Cork.
While hard luck to Neil O’ Sullivan and Naoise MacCathmhaoil
who were part of the Waterford U20 Hurling and Football teams that were
defeated by Tipperary & Cork respectively.
