INTERMEDIATE HURLING:
Our Intermediate hurlers were defeated by Dunhill in a high
scoring and entertaining championship match last Saturday afternoon in Fenor.
The lads lost on a score-line of 4-27 to 5-17. This game was right in the
balance going into the final quarter, however Dunhill got five unanswered
points to open up a gap that proved decisive.
Despite opening the scoring with a Neil O’ Sullivan point,
Dunhill replied with two quick goals, but the lads fought back with six points
from Mark O' Brien to keep the team in the hunt. With scores coming at a quick
pace by both sides, a fine solo goal from Neil O’ Sullivan had Ferrybank back
in the lead. Minutes later, Greg Murphy got a second goal, when a long ball was
played into the edge of the square, and Greg was first to react to steer the
ball into the net. Just before half-time, a third Ferrybank goal arrived, when
john Ahern was alert to the ball after it came back off of the post to put the
ball into the empty net, to edge Ferrybank ahead by the minimum at the break.
Further points from Mark O’ Brien John Ahern kept Ferrybank
in touch. However, a mistake in the Ferrybank defence left Dunhill in for their
third goal. Minutes later, following good work from Oisin MacCathmhaoil, Mark
O' Brien finished the ball to the net to level it up. But in a crucial spell,
Dunhill got a grip on the game, and quickly put over five quick points to open
up a lead. Despite Ferrybank getting the game back to a three-point difference,
a fourth Dunhill goal arrived towards the end of the game to seal the win. Mark
O' Brien got a fifth goal for the team, but Dunhill held out for the win.
Despite this defeat, Ferrybank played well for long periods
of the game, and matched their opponents during it; they will have learned a
lot from this game. Next up is Ballygunner next Saturday, July 27th at
2:15pm in Walsh Park, in their final game of the league stage. Thanks to all
who came along and supported the team on the day.
JUNIOR HURLING:
The Junior hurlers played out a draw in their latest game
against Portlaw last Friday night. This was a game that they could have won and
lost. A good second-half effort got them their point. In the opening half,
Portlaw were on top, and only for some crucial saves from Cian Martin, the lads
could have been further behind. A goal from Nathon Carton got the lads back in
the game, and despite missing a number of scores, the hard-working Maciez
Tomczuk scored a fine point to level up the game at 1-13 each. A good display
from some of the young players with Jake Brophy, Luke Butler, Maciez and
Charlie Atkins holding their own on the night.
Next up for the Juniors is this coming Friday, July 26th
when they take on St. Pauls in Ferrybank at 7:30pm.
MINOR HURLING:
Our Minor Hurlers are back in action this coming Wednesday July

COUNTY DUTY:
Hard luck to Iona Heffernan and the Waterford Senior Camogie
team that were defeated by Cork in Walsh Park last Sunday evening. Despite this
defeat, the girls have qualified for the All-Ireland quarter-finals, and will
take on Galway on Saturday August 3rd in Thurles.
Well done to Niamh Ahearne and Grainne Heffernan who played for
the Waterford Junior Camogie team that defeated Wicklow in Walsh Park last
Saturday afternoon.
