JUNIOR FOOTBALL:
Our Junior Footballers travelled to play Mount Sion in their opening game in the John J Murphy sponsored competition last Friday. Despite a gallant effort, it was the home side who prevailed on a score-line of 4-13 to 1-11.
The lads had a quick-fire start with a Sam Lawless goal, and points from Luke Flynn and Greg Murphy. However, Mount Sion began to take control with their running game causing the Ferrybank defence problems and hit five points on the trot to draw level. In spite of missing a couple of good scoring chances, Ferrybank were hit with two quick goals in three minutes, and contrary to points from Sam and Luke, Mount Sion held a 2-07 to 1-04 lead at the break.
Mount Sion continued to put on the pressure, with three more points to extend their lead. Ferrybank found it hard to break down the Mount Sion defence, and when they did get through, the Mount Sion goalie pulled of a couple of crucial saves. Points from Sam, Luke and Greg in quick succession kept the scoreboard ticking over, but just like the first-half, two goals in a couple of minutes finished the game, as the home side ran out comfortable winners.

Hard luck to Mark O' Brien and John Burns who were part of the Waterford Senior hurling set-up that was narrowly defeated by Clare in their opening game in this year’s Munster Championship. Let’s hope they can resume winning ways when the team make the trip to play Tipperary in Thurles this coming Sunday.

Also well done to Jay Bagge and Conor Daly who were part of the Primary Go Games which took place over the weekend.
