JUNIOR HURLING:
Our Junior Hurlers made a winning start to this year’s Championship with a good victory over St. Saviours last Friday night, on a score-line of 3-11 to 1-09. A fine second-half performance paved the way for this win.
St. Saviours got off to a flying start with an early goal, followed by a point, but James Murphy replied with a point. St. Saviours’ forward line was causing problems to the Ferrybank defence, who were under pressure at times, but the lads held firm, particularly the full-back line. Despite being six points down, they slowly clawed their way back with points from Eimhin Burns, Eoin O' Neill and Greg Murphy. Ferrybank could have been much closer at the break only for some wayward shooting at times. While at the other end, our goalkeeper Cian Martin pulled off a good save at the expense of a point, to leave Saviours ahead 1-06 to 0-05 at the break.
Two quick Saviours points at the start of the half increased the lead to six, but Ferrybank quickly replied with a James Murphy goal from close range, following good build up play from Greg Murphy and Kevin Hurley. With another point from Eoin O’ Neill, Ferrybank began to take control of the game. A second goal arrived when Kevin Hurley ran through and slotted the ball to the net. Moments later, James Murphy got his second and Ferrybank’s third goal, when he picked up a loose ball and finished to the net. Four more unanswered points from Eoin O’ Neill saw the lads run out good winners in the end.
This was a good team performance, with a nice blend of youth and experience and despite a shaky start, they settled down, and got their reward.

UNDER 15 HURLING:
Well done to our U15 panel who played their first 2019 hurling match against Passage over the weekend in Ferrybank.
Blessed with the warm sunshine, Ferrybank went out and put it up to the Division 2 team from the start. Unfortunately, we were down by 6 points at half-time, but the second-half saw a galvanised spirited Ferrybank team and there was an electrifying finish where the Passage goalie pulled off an amazing save to keep the lead.
Final score - Ferrybank 1-07 Passage 1-10.
Many thanks for the effort today lads, we were so close but you all did the parish proud.
