UNDER 11 HURLING:
It was a busy week for the U11 hurlers, playing two games in
three days with contrasting fortunes. Last Tuesday night, they travelled to
play Butlerstown and were defeated on a score-line of 1-08 to 1-03.
A slow start to the opening half was key to this game in
which Butlerstown built up a useful first-half lead. Despite a second-half
rally, a strong Butlerstown defence held firm, conceding very little and ensuring
they held on for the win.
Last Friday night the team welcomed De La Salle, and on this
occasion, Ferrybank hit the ground running with a nice brand of flowing hurling.
In difficult conditions, they took their scores when it mattered, running out
3-05 to 2-03 winners.
Next up for the team is a trip to Kill to play St. Marys
this coming Wednesday May 22nd at 6:30pm. TEAM: Max, Tommy, Conor,
Jacob, Luke, Liam, Gavin, Finn, Jack, Robbie, Harry, Rian, Daniel, Evan,
Michael, Mark, Sam.
UNDER 12 HURLING:
Its City League action for the U12s this coming Friday May
24th at 6:30pm where they play Glenmore in Ferrybank. This will be
another stiff test for the team, and no doubt will give it their best shot.
Your support will be welcomed on the night.
UNDER 13 FOOTBALL:
The U13 Footballers qualified for the semi-final of the Eastern
Bord na nÓg defeating St. Saviours on a score-line of 3-05 to 3-03. This game
was all about positions in the league table, but the players will have taken
great confidence for this game. As it transpires, the same two teams will meet again
in the semi-finals on Monday May 27th at 7pm at a neutral venue.
ANGELA BURNS MEMORIAL
10K:
This coming Saturday May 25th will see the 5th
annual Angela Burns Memorial 10K Fun Run/Walk. The run will start at 7pm from
the GAA grounds. Once again, this event has been kindly sponsored by Harvey
Travel Gladstone St., and we would like to thank Sean Power and his staff for
their kind and generous sponsorship.
Entries are currently been taken on www.totaltiming.ie/event/angela-burns-memorial-10k-2019/,
and its €15 for the runners (chipped) & €10 for the walkers. Entries will
close online at 10pm Friday night May 24th.
On the day itself, you can register in the GAA grounds from
5:30pm. This event is open to everyone, from marathon runners, joggers and
walkers. We would encourage everyone to come along and enjoy the night. There
will be a juvenile race for the Under 12s (boys and girls), which will consist
of one lap around the field, and the entry fee will be €2. The juvenile race
will start at 6:30pm.
Parking on the day can be obtained in the Bellfield housing
estate, where they are plenty of laybys, and we would ask everyone who is
parking there, to park in an ordinary fashion and respect the driveways of
neighbours. Unfortunately, we were not able to obtain the car parking in the
Shopping Centre and there is strictly no parking in the GAA grounds either. So
let’s hope the weather will be a lot kinder to us on the night and we look
forward to seeing everyone there.
COUNTY DUTY:
Hard luck to Mark O' Brien, John Burns and the Waterford
Senior hurling team that were defeated by Tipperary in the Munster hurling
Championship in Thurles last Sunday.
CLOTHING COLLECTION:
The clothing collection has now resumed, and if you have any
of the following items that you don’t need, you can drop them down to the GAA
grounds; clothes, curtains, paired shoes, belts and soft toys. Please do NOT bring down any pillows or
duvets.
MOTHERS & OTHERS:
The Mothers & Others Ladies Gaelic football team are
seeking new players to join their team. If you are over 25 years of age, and
would like to get involved, please come down to the GAA grounds on Tuesday evenings
from 7 to 8pm where training takes place. No experience needed, as coaches Conor
and John will provide the necessary training required. It’s a non-contact
sport, and also a good way to get involved and to make new friends.
