ABP sponsored Ferrybank GAA Weekly Notes

UNDER 17 FOOTBALL:

No joy for the U17 Footballers in their opening game in this year’s championship as they were well defeated by a much slicker and effective Mount Sion.

With the breeze on their backs in the first-half, the team struggled in the opening exchanges, in which Mount Sion had three points on the board before Aidan Humphries got Ferrybank’s opening score. Mount Sion were causing problems in Ferrybank’s defence and scored a goal when a high ball wasn’t cleared, and the ball ended up in the back of the net. Charlie McLoughlin replied back with a point, and despite creating a couple of goal chances, the final pass went astray.

Mount Sion aided with the wind, dominated the second-half, and got their scores at will, running out easy winners, as the lads’ heads began to drop.

The team now need to bounce back with a trip to play St. Mollerans in Carrickbeg next Sunday, February 24th at 11:30am. Your support will be appreciated.

JUVENILE GAELIC GAMES ACADEMY:

The Juvenile academy for boys and girls, aged 5 to 6 years of age, continues this coming Saturday morning from 10am to 11am at the GAA grounds.

The club nursery programme teaches children the basic movements and skills required to play Gaelic games. This includes agility, balance, coordination, running, jumping throwing, catching, striking and kicking. The club nursery targets 5 to 6 year olds, and it’s a great way to introduce new children and parents to the club. All equipment, helmets, hurleys, etc. will be supplied.

So why not come along to the Ferrybank GAA grounds this coming Saturday along with the children and we would be delighted to have them on board.

JUVENILE REGISTRATION:

Presentation of medals and Player of the Year Awards (2018 Season) night will take place on Saturday, February 23rd at 4:45pm in the Parish Hall (Opposite the Post Office)

Ferrybank’s Mark O Brien, Waterford Senior Hurler will present medals on the night.

Registration is €30 for first child €10 each for each additional child. New members are very welcome to register. The Juvenile club had a fantastic season last year, competing in four County finals, and let’s hope this will continue for the season ahead. We look forward to seeing everyone there.

COUNTY DUTY:

Well done to Mark O' Brien and the Waterford Senior Hurling team who maintained their unbeaten record with victory over Carlow last Sunday night.

While it is hard luck to Iona Heffernan and Niamh Ahearne who were part of the Waterford Senior Camogie side that were defeated by Galway in the league in Carriganore.

DÉISE DRAW:

The 2019 Déise Draw was launched last Wednesday night in Stradbally, and the opening draw will take place on Wednesday, April 24th.

The draw will be the same format as last year with six draws at €15 per entry; with 20 cash prizes up for grabs each month.

This is the club’s main source of income with 70% been retained by the club, which goes towards paying for day-to-day operations. We would ask everyone concerned to get involved and support the Déise Draw.

ANGELA BURNS MEMORIAL 10K:

The fifth Angela Burns Memorial 10K Fun Run/Walk will take place on Sunday, April 14th at 11am, starting from the GAA grounds.

Once again, this event has been kindly sponsored by Harvey Travel, and we would like to thank Sean Power and his staff for their kind and generous sponsorship.
