UNDER 13 HURLING:
The U13 South-East hurling blitz due to be played in the WIT sports campus was cancelled for a second time due to the bad weather. Ferrybank were due to play Barrow Rangers, Mullinahone and Graigue/Ballycallan. The panel of players will have finished for the year having won both the Under 13 and 14 hurling titles.
BORD NA nÓG AWARD NIGHT:
Last Saturday evening in De La Salle’s GAA grounds in Gracedieu saw Ferrybank GAA club win the Eastern Juvenile club of the year for 2018. The club enjoyed an unbelievable year, contesting four County finals and winning three of them.
Brian Richards accepted the trophy on the club’s behalf. This was a fantastic achievement. Special mention must be given to all the coaches and mentors for all their time and effort throughout the year. This hard work has paid off, which clearly emphasises that a huge effort is being made at underage level.
Also, on the night the County final Man of the Match awards were presented. Well done to Izaak Richards for the U13 hurling award, Daniel Griffin for Under 14 hurling and Aidan Humphries for the Under 16 hurling, which were presented by Waterford Senior hurling team manager Páraic Fanning, while Trevor Madigan received his Under 16 Football award from Waterford Senior Football player Tommy Prendergast. Well done to one and all, and no doubt, a bright future lies ahead.
SIBLING RIVALRY:
It was a case of the Heffernan Sisters playing against one another last week in the Camogie Colleges league semi-final with Iona lining out for the W.I.T. and Grainne playing for Maynooth University. It was the W.I.T. side coming out on top 2-10 to 0-07, and qualifying for the final against UL.
