UNDER 16 HURLING:
Our U16 Hurlers were out of luck in the Division 4 County
final last Saturday morning, where they were defeated by Clashmore/Kinsalebeg
on a score-line of 1-16 to 1-09 at a wet Fraher Field.
Despite having a lot of possession in the opening-half,
crucially, Ferrybank found themselves four points down at the break. Three
quick second-half points from Clashmore/Kinsalebeg saw them open a lead in
which Ferrybank found it hard to claw back.
Aidan Humphries and Charlie McLoughlin had scored opening
points for Ferrybank, but Clashmore/Kinsalebeg replied with a goal from a 20
metre free, in which a low shot somehow ended up in the Ferrybank net. Shane
Oates responded with a fine score and another point from Aidan had them just
two behind.
Shane Oates was unlucky to see his goal-bound effort saved
by the Clashmore/Kinsalebeg goalkeeper, but despite being on top, Ferrybank’s
created chances were not taken, and even though further scores from Shane,
Charlie, Aidan leaving them one behind, Clashmore/Kinsalebeg scored four of the
remaining five points, just before the break to lead 1-09 to 0-08.
Three quick second-half points from the westerners had them
seven clear, and despite Charlie reducing the gap, Clashmore/Kinsalebeg began
to take control of the game, with their defence starting to dominate. Four more
unanswered points extended their lead, but credit to the lads, as they battled
all the way, and were rewarded when Shane Purcell goaled from close range.
Credit to the team, as they fought all the way, and for a
lot of these young players, they will be back next year. Well done to Clashmore/Kinsalebeg,
and a huge thanks to MJ, Tommy, Nicky, Cormac and Robbie for preparing the team
throughout the season.

JUNIOR FOOTBALL:
The Junior Footballers qualified for the semi-finals of the
John J Murphy Eastern championship competition with a good win over Erin’s Own
last Sunday morning in Cleaboy on a score-line of 6-15 to 1-11.
The lads quickly got going with points from Tiarnan
Morrissey Kevin Hurley and Sam Lawless. Mark O' Brien got the opening goal with
a low shot from close range. Luke Flynn quickly got goal number two from the
penalty spot, and the same player scored number three following a fine flowing
move, with Luke dispatching the ball to the corner of the net. Erin’s Own got a
goal back, but Ferrybank kept the scoreboard ticking over with more points from
Kevin, Tiarnan and James Murphy ensuring a 3-08 to 1-05 lead at the break.
The game was quickly over with James getting number four,
and with more points from John Ahern, Kevin and Tiarnan, it was left to James
to finish off with goals five and six to complete his hat trick.
No doubt, a good run out for the team, playing some good
passages of football and getting some fine scores in the process. They now go
forward to play Ballyduff Lower in the semis, with that game more than likely
going ahead next weekend, with time, date, venue to be confirmed.
