UNDER 13 HURLING:
Our Under 13 hurlers were crowned County Champions last
Saturday morning at a wet and windy Walsh Park, defeating a gallant An
Gaeltacht side of a score-line of 3-03 to 0-05
Goals win matches in these type of tight encounters, and
three first-half goals paved the way for this win, and the lads had to stand a
stiff test in the second-half, when An Gaeltacht did everything to snatch
victory.
Well done lads, and Captain Izaak Richards collected the
trophy on behalf of the team. The future bodes well for these young players,
especially as there is only two of this team up to the age bracket. Thanks to
Conor McGarrity, John Heffernan, Brian Richards and John Haley for preparing
the team throughout the campaign, and all the hard work has now paid dividends.
INTERMEDIATE HURLING:
The Intermediate hurlers preserved their status for 2019
with a comfortable victory over Fenor in De La Salle Cleaboy last Saturday
afternoon. Despite conceding the opening score of the game, Ferrybank went on a
scoring spree hitting 2-09 without reply, and by half-time the game was good as
over, with Fenor reduced to fourteen men.
Cormac O' Driscoll quickly cancelled out Fenor’s early
score; further points from Sam Lawless (2), Mark O' Brien (2), John Ahern (2), Jeff
Lawless, and Cormac O’ Driscoll saw the lads quickly move into at 0-09 to 0-01
lead. Then, two goals inside a minute, firstly Mark O' Brien drove through the
Fenor defence, and hit a bullet of a shot to the net, and very soon goal number
two followed, when Cormac O' Driscoll picked up a loose ball in the Fenor
defence, and first time hit it into the net, after John Ahern’s initial shot
was saved. This ensured a 2-10 to 0-03 lead at the break.
The second-half saw Sam Lawless scoring goal number three,
when switched to full forward, and despite Fenor pulling a goal back from a 20
metre free, further points from Greg Murphy, Luke Flynn and Mark O’ Brien saw
the lads home on a score-line of 3-21 to 1-05.
It was a job done for the team on the day, and this rounds
up the Intermediate’s season for the year. In fairness, the selectors left no
stone unturned preparing the team throughout the year, and a big thanks to
Declan, Pat, Philly, Doxer, Dom, Tony and Maxi for all their help during their campaign.
Scorers – Cormac O' Driscoll (1-6), Mark O' Brien (1-6), Sam
Lawless (1-3), John Ahern (0-02), Greg Murphy (0-02), Jeff Lawless (0-01), Luke
Flynn (0-01).
