U13 HURLING:
Pride of place this week goes to the Under 13 hurlers who
were crowned Eastern Champions in Division 3 last Saturday morning after a nail
biting extra-time win over a gallant Sacred Heart team in Walsh Park. Final
score 0-04 to 0-02.
Despite, this low scoring game, both sides served up a
classic, and it wasn’t a game for the faint hearted. The opening half was
evenly contested, and that was reflected with Caolan MacCathmhaoil scoring the
only point of the half. Sacred Heart came more into this game in the second-half,
and generated two points to edge them ahead, only for a fine point from Izaak
Richards to level it up and force the game into extra-time.
Five minutes each way was played, and in the opening period,
Adam Aspel delivered a fine ball to Conor Haley who calmly slotted the ball
over the bar to put Ferrybank ahead. This put a right pep in the lads step,
from Kyle in the goal, Paddy and Sean holding firm in the full-back line, Conor,
Caolan, Adam in the half-back line, holding the Sacred Heart forward to limited
scoring chances. Izaak & Jay began to get the upper hand in midfield, while
up front Idir, Fionn, Luigi, Jacob, Aaron, Shane and Conor created numerous
chances, and this was reflected when Izaak converted a crucial free in the
closing minutes to put Ferrybank two ahead, and this was the final score of the
match.
Captain Izaak Richards collected the Trophy on behalf of the
team amid joyous scenes. The team now go on to the county final next Saturday
September 22nd in Walsh Park, where they will play An Gaeltacht.
Winning back to back matches has given the side confidence, and no doubt, they
will give it their all in the final. Thanks to all who came along and supported
the team on the day, and look forward to more support next Saturday.
U14 HURLING:
Its semi-final action tonight (Monday September 17th)
at 6:15pm, when the U14s play Ardmore in Bonmahon. Prior to this big game, the
lads travelled to Clashmore/Kinsalebeg last Monday evening and recorded a
fantastic 5-06 to 1-06 win over the home side, playing some fine hurling
throughout the game, resulting in some great scores.
Another stiff test awaits the team, so please
come along and support the lads, and let’s hope they can reach the final. UPDATE - RESULT - FERRYBANK 3-08 ARDMORE 3-06.
U16 HURLING:
It was another excellent result for the U16 hurlers who
travelled to play Ballygunner B in the quarter-final last Tuesday night, and
came away with a thrilling 3-15 to 3-12 win. Things didn’t look good for the
team, trailing by nine points with 15 minutes remaining, but Ferrybank blitzed
the home side with a couple of quick goals, and from there on, the confidence
soared, and the lads drove on for a great win.
Next up for the Under 16's is a semi-final clash with St.
Saviours, with the match scheduled to take place at the end of the month.
U11 FOOTBALL:
Our U11 Footballers recorded a great win over a spirited
Roanmore side last Sunday morning winning on a scoreline of 5-04 to 4-04. It didn’t
look good for the side at half-time, down by four goals, but following a half-time pep talk, the players knuckled
down, and got down to business scoring five goals of their own, to secure a
great win.
U10 HURLING:
Our U10 hurlers made the trip to De La Salle last Saturday
morning to take part in a local blitz tournament, and turned in a great
performance winning all four games they contested. Well done to all concerned,
all the training is now beginning to pay dividends.
INTERMEDIATE HURLING:
The Intermediate hurlers’ relegation play-off match against
Fenor looks like it will go ahead next Saturday September 22nd. No time
and venue has been confirmed, so keep an eye on the social media page for the
updates.
OLD BOOTS:
If you have any Old Playing Boots that you don’t need, and
are lying around, you can donate them to a worthy cause for kids in Africa.
Boots can be dropped down into the GAA grounds until the end of September.
