ABP sponsored Ferrybank GAA Weekly Notes

UNDER 13 HURLING:

Our Under 13 hurlers qualified for the Eastern final last Saturday afternoon with a fantastic victory over a spirited Clan Na Gael side in Portlaw, winning on a scoreline of 4-04 to 0-6 in wet and windy conditions. Goals at key stages of the game was the winning of the match.

Ferrybank started brightly, and were rewarded with an early Izaak Richards goal, and this lead grew further with points from Adam Aspel, Shane Purcell and Izaak. Clan Na Gael came a lot more into the game, and got three points to reduce the gap. Crucially however, just before half-time, a second Ferrybank goal ensured a 2-03 to 0-04 lead at the break.

In the opening exchanges, of the second-half, one of Conor Daly's fine sideline cuts found Mick McLawrence, who passed it skilfully onto the corner forward maestro Conor Haley who dispatched the sliothar to the back of the net. Clan Na Gael began to throw everything at the Ferrybank defence, but with Kyle in goal, followed by an unbreakable defence of Paddy and Sean, and also Adam and Conor Daly holding firm in the half-back line, supplying excellent ball to midfielders Jay and Izaak, who set up Shane that delivered another fine ball to Conor to hit an unstoppable missile to the back of the Clan Na Gael net with goal number four.

With Luigi, Finn, Aaron and Jacob battling hard up in the forward line, ensuring a difficult afternoon for the big Clan Na Gael defenders, Ferrybank held out for a fully deserved win, and they will now go forward to play Sacred Heart in next Saturday's final September 15th at 11am in Walsh Park.

The last time the sides met, Sacred Heart edged a tight game by three points, so another close game is on the cards, and your support will be appreciated on the day, and let’s hope the lads can come home with the cup.

JUNIOR HURLING:

The Junior hurlers exited the Junior C hurling championship at the semi-final stage last Saturday night in Walsh Park, where they were beaten by favourites Dunhill. To be fair, no fault can be attributed to the players on the night, as they gave it their all, and being short a number of players didn’t help their cause.

The team were on the back foot in the opening half, as Dunhill took complete control of the game, and two goals in a matter of minutes, finished the game as a contest, despite points from Ciaran Doyle and Paul Martin. Ferrybank worked hard in the second-half, and began to create a few goal chances, in which Ciaran Doyle scored from close range, and despite further points from Alex Kinsella and Paul Martin, Dunhill ran out easy winners on the night. We wish Dunhill well in the final.

A huge thanks to Pat and Nicky for overseeing the Juniors during the campaign, and while losing a number of key players throughout the Championship didn’t help, they can’t be faulted for their effort and commitment.

UNDER 14 HURLING:

Its knockout time for the Under 14 hurlers tonight, Monday September 10th, when the lads make the long journey to play Clashmore/Kinsalebeg at 6:30pm. Only a point separated the teams in the group stages, so there won’t be a lot in this game. Your support will be appreciated on the night.

UNDER 16 HURLING:

Its quarter-final action for the Under 16 hurlers this coming Tuesday September 11th, with the team travelling to play Ballygunner at 6:30pm. Please come along and show your support on the night.
