INTERMEDIATE HURLING:
Ferrybank’s Intermediate hurlers exited the Gerry Kennedy
Crash Repairs sponsored competition last Saturday evening at the hands of
Ballyduff Lower on a scoreline of 2-14 to 1-14.
Things had looked promising in the opening quarter, as aided
by the breeze, Ferrybank with points Cormac O' Driscoll, and Mark O' Brien with
a well taken goal, had them six points clear. Moments later, Mark saw another
goal-bound shot saved by the Ballyduff keeper and this seemed to inspire them,
as they gradually clawed their way back into the game with a number of scores.
Crucially, Ballyduff scored a goal of their own from a free, and at half-time they
found themselves leading 1-06 to 1-05 at the break.
Early points were exchanged in the second-half, but a second
Ballyduff goal had them three points clear, as Ferrybank began to find it hard
to get a grip on the game. The lead was extended to five midway through the
second-half. However, Ferrybank slowly responded with points from Cormac O’
Driscoll, Luke Flynn and Mark O' Brien to reduce the gap to one. At this stage,
it looked like the momentum had shifted, but yet again, Ballyduff held firm,
and replied with two unanswered points to run out three point winners, and
claim a place in the quarter-finals.
This was a tough defeat to take, with a few silly frees conceded
that proved crucial in the end. The lads now enter a relegation play-off, with
opponents, yet to be confirmed. Thanks to all who came along and supported the
team.
CAMOGIE:
Ferrybank’s Camogie side made it two wins from two with a
thrilling win over a determined Butlerstown side last Saturday evening, winning
on a scoreline of 2-08 to 2-05.
It didn’t look good for them, trailing by six points with
seven minutes to go, but the team dug deep with two late goals to seal a fine
win. Well done girls.
MINOR HURLING:
Our Minor Hurlers are back in action this coming Wednesday
night August 29th at 6:45pm with a home game against Stradbally.
Winning back-to-back matches will have given the side confidence going into
this game, and your support will be welcomed.
COUNTY DUTY:
Congratulations to Ruadhri McGarrity who was part of the
Waterford Under 14 hurling side that took part in the annual Sonny Walsh
Tournament in Waterford last Saturday.
UNDER 13 HURLING:
Our Under 13 hurlers recorded two excellent victories in the
space of three days last week. First up was a trip to play Tramore, and
following a good game of hurling, the lads had to dig deep, and won on a
scoreline of 2-05 to 0-7. Last Thursday night, Clan Na Gael came to Ferrybank,
and another close game was fought out, with Ferybank winning on a scoreline of
4-04 to 2-04. Following these games, the team have now qualified for the
knockout stages, winning five out of their six matches. Well done lads, keep up
the good work.
UNDER 13 FOOTBALL:
Our U13 Footballers are in action this coming Tuesday night
August 28th with a home game against Rathgormack at 6:30pm. Your
support will be welcomed on the night.
UNDER 12 FOOTBALL/HURLING:
Our U12 Footballers are in action this coming Friday night
August 31st with a trip to play Portlaw at 6:30pm.
Meanwhile the hurlers made the trip to Lismore last Saturday
morning to take part in a blitz tournament hosted by the home club. First up,
was a game against Youghal, and following a ding-dong battle the lads emerged
winners on a scoreline of 1-03 to 1-02. Abbeyside were next up, and the lads
recorded a good 2-05 to 1-04 win, while Lismore was the last game in the group
stages, and yet again, another fine performance saw the team winning 2-01 to
0-01.
With both sides qualifying for the final, Lismore ran out
winners by 1-07 to 1-01. No doubt, the team enjoyed their day out, and will
come on in leaps and bounds following these displays.
UNDER 11 FOOTBALL:
The U11 Footballers recorded a fine 7-05 to 0-0 win over
Butlerstown last Friday night. Another big win for the team, and well done to
Liam Ryan who made his debut for the team and marked it with two well taken
goals.
UNDER 14 HURLING:
Our U14 hurlers made the trio to Leamybrien last Monday week
to play Kilrossanty in their last game of the League series. Kilrossanty
started well and were in control of the game early on. The young Ferrybank team
got more into the game and a goal midway through the opening half put us ahead.
However, the home-side responded and at the midway stage they led by 1-08 to
1-03.
The second-half was evenly contested, with Ferrybank
beginning to push on, creating two great goal opportunities, but crucially didn’t
take them, with Kilrossanty running out 1-12 to 2-04 winners. Ferrybank now
enter the play offs, with Clashmore/Kinsalebeg more than likely to provide the
opposition.
DÉISE DRAW:
Best of luck to all who have purchased a Déise Draw ticket which
takes place this coming Wednesday night August 29th in Ballysaggart.
Let’s hope we can have a couple of winners on the night. Congratulations to
Eamonn O' Neill who was the confined winner for July.
