INTERMEDIATE HURLING:
Our Intermediate Hurlers are in Championship action this
coming Saturday August 25th with Ballyduff Lower being the opponents
and the game will take place in Kill at 5pm. The winners of this match will go
directly into the quarter-finals of the Eastern Championship, while the losers
enter a relegation play-off, so no doubt the stakes are high for both sides.
JUNIOR HURLING:
Ferrybank’s Junior hurlers were defeated by St. Saviour’s in
their latest championship game last Sunday morning, on a scoreline of 1-10 to
1-20. Going into this game, the team were short a number of players, so it was
always going to be tough for the team.
Despite being well in the hunt, St. Saviour’s pulled away in
the final quarter of the match. The opening half was keenly fought. Ferrybank
worked hard and got rewarded with scores from James Murphy, Paul Hoban, Ciaran
Doyle and Darryl Griffin, while the defence had to repel any dangerous St.
Saviour’s attacks, and credit to them, as the kept the goal intact. Further
points from James, Darryl and Ciaran had them just trailing by 0-09 to 0-08 at
the break.
St. Saviour’s made the early running in the second-half, but
points from Darryl and Ciaran had them only two behind. However, a St. Saviour’s
attack saw them in for a goal that extended the lead. Moments later, Tommy Lane
picked up a loose ball in the St. Saviour’s area and drove the sliothar to the net,
to give the lads hope.
Unfortunately, Saviours picked up another gear and converted
five unanswered points to run out easy winners in the end. Despite this defeat,
Ferrybank had already qualified for the semi-finals, where they now play
Dunhill at a later stage.
MINOR HURLING:
Ferrybank’s Minor hurlers recorded a comfortable win over St.
Saviour’s last Tuesday night winning on a scoreline of 6-10 to 0-6. Most of the
damage was done in the opening 20 minutes with Ryan Tierney scoring three
goals, and Cody Griffin with another, ensuring Ferrybank went into a 4-03 to
0-2 lead at the break.
Points from Charlie Atkins and Eimhin Burns increased the
lead, while two further goals from Charlie McLaughlin and Ryan ensured a job
well done from the side.
Next up for the Minors is a home game against Stradbally on
Wednesday August 29th.
CAMOGIE:
Ferrybank’s Camogie side are back in Championship action
this coming Saturday August 25th when they play Butlerstown in
Ferrybank at 7pm. Your support will be welcomed on the night.
UNDER 16 HURLING:
Our Under 16 hurlers gained their first win in this year’s
competition with a fine 4-14 to 1-17 win over Sacred Heart last Friday night.
Despite being narrowly defeated in their last game, the team showed great
hunger throughout the match and were full value for the win on the night.
UNDER 12 HURLING:
The Under 12 hurlers made the trip to Thurles last Thursday
morning to take part in the Munster Fun Day. The team played three games. First
up, Durlas Óg providing the opposition, and the lads hurled brilliantly
recording an emphatic 6-01 to 1-03 win. Castlelyons were next up, and again,
Ferrybank played some excellent hurling running out 4-07 to 1-01 win. St.
Finbarr’s were the opponents in the third game, and this was a right ding-dong match,
with little or nothing between the sides, but Ferrybank pulled out a 1-03 to
1-02 win. Three wins from three!
Well done lads, a great day was had by all, and thanks to
John, Niall and Seamus for looking after the team on the day.
