INTERMEDIATE HURLING:
Ferrybank’s Intermediate hurlers recorded an emphatic
victory St. Saviours in Walsh Park last Sunday afternoon, winning on a score-line
of 5-11 to 0-11. The damage was done in the opening half, with Ferrybank in
control, not giving their opponents any time to settle.
Cormac O' Driscoll got the scoreboard ticking over with an
early goal, and points from Mark O' Brien, Jeff Lawless and Oisin MacCathmhaoil
had St. Saviours under pressure. John Ahern got Ferrybank’s second goal midway
through the half. Neil O’ Sullivan with a super third, racing away from the St.
Saviours defence and planting the sliothar to the far corner of the net. Points
from Mark O’ Brien and Cormac O’ Driscoll ensured at 3-09 to 0-03 lead at the
break.
With the tempo of the game dropping in the second-half,
Oisin MacCathmhaoil got goal number four, receiving a pass from John Ahern, and
scoring at the second attempt. To be fair, St. Saviours never gave up and
scored seven points on the trot. Eoin O' Neill in the goal had to be at his
sharpest, saving a number of St. Saviours shots. Greg Murphy almost got a
fifth, but his booted attempt went over the bar. However, minutes from the end,
Cormac O' Driscoll scored his second and Ferrybank’s fifth from close range.
Overall a good display from the team, despite missing a
number of players, the lads that came into the starting fifteen acquitted
themselves well. We now qualify for the playoffs, with Ballyduff Lower most likely being our opponents, with the game scheduled to take place w/e 25th/26th
August.
CAMOGIE:
The Camogie team made the trip to Tallow last Wednesday
night to play the home side in their opening Championship game and came away
with a fantastic victory, winning on a score-line of 2-10 to 0-07.
It was a cagey opening half with Ferrybank leading by 0-3 to
0-2, but early in the second-half, the side began to get on top with Roisin
Oates scoring the opening goal, and points from the impressive Eimear Larkin
with two, Niamh Ahearne, Grainne Heffernan and Iona Heffernan put them well
clear. Roisin with her second goal sealed the win for the girls. This was an excellent
display in which they restricted their opponents to points from placed balls
only. Next up is a home game against Butlerstown on Saturday August 25th
at 7pm.
UNDER 13 HURLING:
Our Under 13 hurlers recorded an emphatic win over a
spirited St. Marys side last Monday night, final score 9-09 to 1-03. From the
moment Conor Haley put over the first score, the lads knuckled down and playing
some good hurling which was rewarded with points from Izaak, Jay and Shane. While
goals from Finn, Adam, Shane and Conor had them 4-06 to 0-1 ahead at the break.
Credit to St Marys, as they refused to give up, and scored a
goal of their own, and with maybe a bit more luck, could have had a couple
more, only from some good defending from Paddy, Caolan and Aaron. Up front,
Shane scored a couple in the second half, with Izaak, Conor and Jay raised the
green flag.
UNDER 12 FOOTBALL:
The Under 12 Footballers made the trip to Carrickbeg last
Tuesday night to play St. Mollerans and recorded a 3-04 to 1-00 win.
There wasn’t much rest for the majority of the players, with
most of them in hurling action the previous night, and despite being under
pressure in the early exchanges, Caolan scored a fine goal to settle the nerves.
Jack, in goal, had to be at his best pulling of a couple of crucial saves,
while in defence Sean, Aaron, Rory and Adam held firm. When scores were needed
Jacob, Conor and Jack in the forwards rose to the occasion, resulting in a fine
win.
Special mention to Daniel who played his first game for the team
and acquitted himself very well. This coming Thursday August 15th the Under 12s
Hurlers travel to Thurles to take part in the Munster Fun Day, where they will
partake in a blitz. Best of luck lads.
UNDER 11 FOOTBALL:
Our U11s won their first match in an evenly contested game
in which the final score-line flattered us – Ferrybank 4-09 Sacred Heart 2-02.
In a tense opening to the game, our backs held firm while under severe pressure,
with some great defending from Rory, Eder and Ryan.
We went in front with some great scores from Jack, Evan,
Conor and Luigi. Unfortunately, we conceded two goals, which could have been
more only for a fine goalkeeping performance from Jack, and we went in at
half-time down by 4 points.
Following some motivational words from John the team really
stepped up in the second-half and played without any fear, led from their
captain Sean. We played some lovely football and ended up getting some great
scores from Luigi, Jacob, Sean and Evan, while at the same time, still
defending very well with Jack marshalling them.
This was a fantastic result for our young team that really
dug deep and grinded out a great performance. Special mention to Yanis who
played his first ever Gaelic match and performed very well. Thanks to all the
parents for their support.

7pm.
