INTERMEDIATE HURLING:
Ferrybank’s Intermediate hurlers recorded their second win
in this year’s Gerry Kennedy Crash Repairs sponsored competition, picking up
two points against Butlerstown last Saturday afternoon in Walsh Park, winning
on a score-line of 2-17 to 0-12.
On a warm day for hurling, Jeff Lawless opened the scoring
with a point. Cormac O' Driscoll then followed with two more points.
Butlerstown replied with a free, but Ferrybank began to get on top, creating
scoring chances, with points from Luke Flynn, Oisin MacCathmhaoil and Robbie
Carew to extend their lead. The lead could have been extended further, but John
Ahern saw his close-range effort saved by the Butlerstown goalie. Butlerstown
began to get more of the play towards the end of the first-half and reduced the
gap to three points. However, Ferrybank replied with more scores from Robbie,
Luke and Cormac O’ Driscoll to lead by 0-12 to 0-07 at the break.
The opening exchanges of the second-half were evenly
contested, with Butlerstown coming more into the game and hit numerous wides
which could have reduced the gap. With the Ferrybank defence holding firm, restricting
Butlerstown to no goal chances, the forwards kept the scoreboard ticking over.
With Sam Lawless, Oisin and Cormac scoring points, and with the game entering
its closing moments, John Ahern cut in from the sideline, and squared the ball
to Eoin O' Neill who scored from close range. A second goal soon followed, when
John Ahern scored from a tight angle, to complete the win.
Overall, this was a solid display from the team, who were in
control of the game from the start, with Davy Atkins excellent in defence,
while Luke Flynn kept things ticking over in midfield. The next game is on Saturday July 7th at 2pm
against Clonea.

JUNIOR HURLING:
Our Junior Hurlers made the trip last Thursday night to play
St. Pauls, and despite a keenly fought contest were defeated on a score-line of
2-14 to 0-13. Going into the game, Ferrybank were missing a few key players. Ferrybank
competed well in the opening half, and lead by 0-10 to 0-08 at the break with
Darryl Griffin, Jeff Lawless, Tiernan Morriseey, Tommy Carew, Paul Hoban and
James Murphy scoring points, and giving the team a narrow lead.
However, an early goal in the second-half for St. Pauls
turned this game. As they began to get on top, with Ferrybank finding scores
hard to come by, St. Pauls opened a three point lead. Nevertheless, Ferrybank
hung in there, and reduced the gap to two points, but St. Pauls closed out the
game with 1-02, to claim the win.
