JUNIOR HURLING:
Our Junior hurlers registered their opening win in this year’s
Gerry Kennedy Crash Repairs sponsored competition last Friday night with a 2-13
to 1-03 over Butlerstown. Ferrybank raced into a three point lead thanks to
Darryl Griffin (0-02) and Paul Martin, but Butlerstown drew level with a goal
of their own. However, this effort didn’t deter Ferrybank, and they quickly
replied with 1-03 of their own; thanks to points from Greg Murphy and a
sideline from Darryl that ended up in the net. Ferrybank were well on top in
the opening half, and further points from Greg and Darryl ensured a 1-09 to
1-02 at the break.
Any hopes of a Butlerstown comeback in the second-half were
quickly evaporated as Ferrybank kept the scoreboard ticking over with more
points from Darryl, Greg, Paul, and midway through the half, Paul Hoban pounced
on a loose ball to steer the sliothar to the net. Butlerstown replied late on
with their only point of the second-half, as Ferrybank ran out comfortable
winners.
