Ferrybank GAA - Weekly Notes

ALL IRELAND CHAMPIONS:
Congratulations to our own Iona Heffernan and the Waterford Intermediate Camogie team who were crowned All Ireland Champions in Croke Park earlier today with victory over a gallant Kildare side. The Déise won on a scoreline of 2-09 to 1-05. Let’s hope it’s the start of many more years of success for these talented hurlers. This is a fantastic achievement for Iona and her teammates – well done ladies.

UNDER 13 HURLING:
Ferrybank played St. Mollerans in the semi-finals last Wednesday night, and the lads put in a great effort from start to finish, but unfortunately lost out to a better team on the night. Ferrybank started of brightly with Charlie McLaughlin finding the target with some well taken scores, but St. Mollerans hit back with a flurry of goals, which left Ferrybank with a mountain to climb in the second half. The lads gave it their all, but couldn’t get the scores to mount a challenge, and we wish the best of luck to St. Mollerans in the final.
Coming near the end of the game, James O' Meara-Fortune received an accidental blow to the head, which resulted James going to hospital for treatment. We are glad to report that James is back on the mend, and thanks to referee Kieran O' Toole who gave first aid, and to St. Mollerans for their assistance.

GREYHOUND NIGHT:
It’s hard to believe it’s that time of the year again; our annual night at the dogs will take place on Saturday November 21st at Kilcohan Park. So put the date in your diary, and make it and enjoyable night out. More details regarding the night will follow in due course.

U10 HURLING:
Ferrybank Under 10s travelled to limerick today in order to retain the Tommy Burtchaell shield which we won last year and they did not disappoint.
As always the Tommy Burtchaell tournament in Na Piarsaigh is a very tough affair and the opposition are always very physical and this year was no different.
The team played 5 matches and the competition became fiercer with each match. The atmosphere was electric as Ferrybank battled our way into the finals but this when our under 8 and under 9 player really made their mark; our 8 year olds
Conor Haley scoring 5 goals no less in the final game, Fionn McGarrity striking gold on 3 occasions and Jack Kelly at the other end making as many heroic saves.
Of course this was no one man show and every one of our 15 panel played their part, captain Izzac Richards showed the true qualities of leadership and battle hard in midfield along with stalwarts Shane Purcell and Caolan. Adam, Mikey, Jay, Idir and Mattie also terrorised the opposition defences in a blitzkrieg manner while our older personnel held a solid defence comprising Ruaidhri, Jamie, Jake and Shane Egan.
This is a very proud day for the management team and on behalf of Ferrybank GAA, we would like to thank the players for their efforts today…. Blood sweat and tears (literally).
Thank also to the support we brought with us who spurned the team on… Ger, Seamus, Adrian, John Haley, Brian Kelly and Paul Sutton.
Congrats again to  The team: Shane Egan, Caolán, Mattie, Fionn & Ruaidhr  McGarrity,  Jake Butler, Jamie, Shane Purcell, Izzac Richards, Idir, Jack Kelly, Conor Haley, Adam Aspel, Mikey McLawrence & Jay Bagge.
This is 2 in a row…Let’s make it 3 next year. Well done again lads. Another proud day for the parish and the club.
