ABP sponsored Ferrybank GAA Weekly Notes

MINOR HURLING LEAGUE:

The combined Ferrybank / St. Saviour’s recorded their second win on the spin, with a comprehensive win over St. Mary’s last Wednesday on a scoreline of 6-14 to 1-12.

Early goals from Finn McGarrity and Jacob Richards put the team in control of the match, and further points from Sam, Conor and Jacob saw clear daylight between the teams. St. Mary’s replied with a goal of their own, when the Ferrybank / St. Saviour’s defence failed to clear the ball, and it was slotted into the back of the net.

However, Ferrybank / St Saviour’s got back into the attack mode, with further scores from Mark Flanagan, Conor and Sam. Just on the stroke of half-time, a third goal from Finn ensured a 3-12 to 1-04 lead at the break.

Reece Murphy hit goal number four just after the break from close range. Credit to St. Mary’s as they battled away to the end with a number of points, but as the game drew to a close, late scores from Conor and Sam sealed a good win for the team. Next up for the players is a trip to Poleberry to play Erin’s Own on Wednesday, May 22nd at 6pm.

UNDER 15 FOOTBALL:

Its knockout action this coming Tuesday, May 21st for the combined Ferrybank / Erin’s Own side as they travel to the SETU Arena for a 6pm throw-in against Portlaw. All support will be welcomed on the night.

COUNTY DUTY:

It was a tough weekend for a number of our players on County duty. Hard luck to Iona Heffernan and the Waterford Senior Camogie team that were narrowly defeated by Cork in the Munster Final in Thurles, and they now turn their attention to the All-Ireland campaign.

While no joy, for Sean Adeyemi, Harry Flanagan, Conor Haley and Paul Martin, who were part of the Waterford Celtic Challenge team that lost to neighbours Kilkenny in the semi-finals last Saturday afternoon.

UNDER 10/12 CAMOGIE:

It was a busy morning last Saturday in the GAA grounds, where the Ferrybank U12 side welcomed Tramore, Mount Sion, and Portlaw for a blitz.

Played in good weather conditions, a lot of action took place, where all teams on show displayed great skill and energy throughout each game, which kept the large crowd on their toes. The girls are improving week in week out, which no doubt is pleasing the coaches with their performances.

Well done to all, and thanks to the teams for coming over to play. Training continues on Tuesday and Thursday from 6-7pm and Saturday morning from 10am to 11am, where new members are welcome to come down and get involved, which saw two new people welcomed into the group.

WELL!KIDS:

The Well!Kids programme continues this coming Saturday morning from 10am to 11am. This is open to boys and girls aged between 4-7. It’s free to attend, where equipment can be provided if needs be. The emphasis is based on fun, and learning our game in a fun, but safe environment.

DÉISE DRAW:

The Déise Draw will commence again this year starting on July 12th, with the first draw being broadcast live on WLR. Similar to last year, there will be six draws between July and November, with the 1st  prize a nice €10k, 2nd prize €3k, 3rd prize €2k, all the way down to number 16.

Over €126k in prize money will be distributed in the Déise Draw, and as usual, there will be bonus prizes and holiday vouchers along the way.

The Déise Draw has been a vital source of income for Ferrybank GAA club over the last number of years, as 70% of the income is retained by the club itself, which goes towards the day-to-day running of the club’s expenditure.

Tickets for the six draws cost €100, and once again, we ask everyone associated with the club to show your support and purchase a Déise Draw ticket, which can be obtained by contacting Nicky Heffernan 087-6724212, or any committee member.
