ABP sponsored Ferrybank GAA Weekly Notes

UNDER 20 HURLING:

It wasn’t to be for the Under 20 hurlers in the JJ Kavanagh and Sons County C Final as they were defeated by a good Kilrossanty side in Walsh Park last Saturday afternoon on a scoreline of 4-15 to 1-11.

Four second-half goals proved decisive at the end. An early score from Ruadhri McGarrity got the team up and running, which was quickly cancelled out by a Kilrossanty score. Points were exchanged by both teams, with Shane Oates and Jay Bagge scoring for the team. Kilrossanty almost got in for the opening goal, when a deflected shot hit the crossbar, and it was cleared to safety. With little to separate the sides, again points were exchanged with Shane Oates scoring a fine point on the run from play. However, crucially, that was the last score for fifteen minutes, as Kilrossanty hit four unanswered points to open up a four point lead. Just before the half time break, two points from placed balls by Shane Oates reduced the gap to two points at the midway stage.

The second-half had just restarted, when Kilrossanty scored a goal, picking up a loose ball, and they drove straight through the middle of the field, giving Kyle in the goal no chance. From there on, Kilrossanty began to get on top and despite three fine scores from Shane Oates, Kilrossanty would reply with a score of there on.

A fine point from Jay Bagge from the sideline kept the lads in the hunt. Moments later, a big chance went begging, when a fine solo run from Pawel Tomczuk was laid off to Jay Bagge, who looked up, and his quick pass found Ruadhri McGarrity but his goalbound shot was cleared by the Kilrossanty defence. That proved crucial, as Kilrossanty hit 3-03 without reply in a ten-minute spell that finished out the game.

In fairness to the Ferrybank team, they kept battling away, and were rewarded with a goal from Ruadhri McGarrity who scored from close range. However, in the end, Kilrossanty ran out worthy winners.

Thanks to Cormac Heffernan, Robbie Carew, Cormac O' Driscoll and Luke Flynn for looking after the team this year, and the majority of the squad will be available again, plus the addition of younger players coming through the ranks. Thanks to all who came along and supported the team on the day.
