JUNIOR CAMOIGE: Pride of place this week goes to the Junior Camoige team who were crowned League Champions in dramatic fashion this evening over Roanmore in Walsh Park on a scoreline of 3-7 to 2-9. Having trailled for the entire match, and with the game in injury time, late points from Orla O' Neill, Iona Heffernan, and Niamh Ahearne sealed a great win. Playing with the wind in the opening half, Roanmore made the better start and had three points on the board. Ferrybank got right back into the game when Aishling O' Keeffe scored a goal to level it up. But straight away, Ferrybank lost concentration in the defence, and Roanmore scored a goal to maintain the three point lead. Niamh Ahearne replied with a point. Roanmore were dangerous on the attack, and a second goal arrived shortly to extend the lead. Another two points followed for Roanmore to leave them seven points clear. But coming up to half time, Aisling O' Keeffe scored a fine second goal through sheer perserverance, and reduce the gap to four points. Roanmore scored two points late on the the opening half to leave it 2-7 to 2-1 in Roanmore favour. An early Roanmore point extended the lead, before Iona Heffernan scored a point, which was followed by Lydia Grant. Ferrybank needed a goal and it duely arrived through Orla O' Neill to reduce the gap to two points. Ferrybank made a few switches, and slowly they began to get on top and Niamh Ahearne reduced the gap to a single point with a good score. Roanmore were hanging on, and the game was on a knife edge, as Roanmore won a free in which they converted. With the game entering Injury time, Orla O' Neill reduced th e gap with a pointed free. From the puckout, Ferrybank won possession and Iona Heffernan levelled it up with a point. Still the game went on, and with the momentum behind them, Ferrybank kept driving on, and Niamh Ahearne picked up a loose ball, went on a solo, and struck over the match winning point. The final whistle sounded, and Ferrybank ran out winners. Captain Zoe Delahunty accepted the Cup on behalf of the team, amid joyous scenes from John C Flood. This was a tough defeat for Roanmore who lead for long periods, and looked like winners as the game entered its closing stages, but credit to Ferrybank, they never gave up, kept battling and got there reward for the effort in the second half. INTERMEDIATE HURLING: Our Intermediate Hurlers were well beaten by a more focused Eirns Own side in their second game of the Championship at Walsh Park this afternoon on a scoreline of 1-17 to 1-5. Difficult to know where to start, but from the first minute, Eirns Own were well up for it, showing a stronger attitude for the game, and playing with the breeze in the opening half, Eirns Own built up a big lead in that half and ran out easy winners in the end. Eirns Own had seven points on the board in the opening 15 minutes, and they scored a goal, when a long range ball into the Ferrybank goal was batted into the net. From them on, Eirns Own were in control and taking there scores. Mark O' Brien scored Ferrybanks only score in the opening half, leaving the half time score 1-11 to 0-1. Any hopes of a comeback in the second half didnt happen as Eirns Own tagged over another two points, before Cormac O' Driscoll and Mark O' Brein replied with points. Eirns Own kept there scores board ticking over, before Mark O' Brien scored a good goal, receiving a pass from Luke Flynn, evading a couple of defenders, and planting the Sliothar into the corner. That was Ferrybanks last score of the game. No doubt this was a disappointing display from the team, and a big improvement will be required for there next Championship game against St Saviours which will take place at the end of the month. TEAM: Robbie Carew, Pat O' Neill, Graham Coady, Seamus Burtchaeil, Andrew Heffernan, Damien Ahern, Gary Coady, Shane Sullivan, Mark O' Brien(1-4), Eoin O' Neill, Phil Blake, Tommy Carew, Cormac O' Driscoll(-1), Sam Lawless, John Ahern, Luke Flynn, Martin Freeman, Alex Kinsella, Dean Phelan, Eric Corcoran, David Atkins.
JUNIOR HURLING: Our Junior Hurlers were defeated by Dunhill in there second game of the Championship on a scoreline of 1-17 to 1-9. Missing a number of key players didnt help there cause for rhe game. Ferrybank were well in this game up to the early stages of the second half, but seven unanswered scores from the visitors ensured a comfortable win in the end. There was little to choose between the sides in the opening half, with Ferrybank missing two goals chances, and despite points from Kieran Doyle, David Atkins, Oisin MacCathmhaoil, Kevin Hurley saw Dunhill going in with a 0-8 to 0-5 half time lead Kieran Doyle kept Ferrybank in the hunt with two points to reduce the gap to 0-9 to 0-7, but Dunhill moved up a gear and there forwards scored points at will to leave daylight between the sides, as Ferrybanks effort began to fade out. Damien Walsh scored a goal to reduce the gap, but with time almost up, a Dunhill free from a long way out went all the way into the net to leave the final scoreline 1-17 to 1-9. TEAM: Jeff Lawless, Cian MacCathmhaoil, Greg Kinsella, Paul Carew, Paul Martin, Alex Kinsella, Hughie O' Neill, Oisin MacCathmhaoil (-1), David Atkins (-1), Kieran Doyle (-6), James Murphy, Dean Phelan, Stephen O' Neill, Alex Power, Martin Freeman, Kevin Hurley (-1), Damien Walsh (1-0), Aidan Sinnott, Sean Rellis, William Tyler.
